SUMMARY
The deckhand is responsible for assisting in the maintenance and operation for the dredge and attendant plant. The employee must be able to work 8 to 12 hour, rotating shifts on all types of dredges or marine construction projects. Must be able to provide transportation to and from the jobsite(s). Extensive travel is required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following: (Additional duties may be assigned.)
- Assists with work on: pipe, pontoon line, submerged line, scow or attending plant, anchors, spud systems, pump, cutterhead, etc.
- Inspects and secures pipes and mooring lines; splices and repairs cables and towing ropes
- Sweeps and washes down all decks, exterior, and job site equipment on the dredge and attending plant
- Chips, paints, sweeps and washes down equipment on the job site
- Acts as signal person for the equipment operators and helps to unload, load and secure pipe and other equipment and materials on trucks, dredges, deck barges, etc.
- Inspects shore pipe for leaks and assists with work on the pipe
- Safely secures the work area to allow only authorized personnel onto work zone
- Performs JSA’s prior to work activity and executes work accordingly
- Operates vehicles for transport and delivery; including four-wheel rough terrain vehicles
- Ensures compliance with Manson’s Code of Ethics and Standards of Business Conduct.
- Responsible for practicing safe work standards and promoting an Incident and Injury Free (IIF) work environment as a condition of employment

SKILLS and EXPERIENCE
- Must have ability to give and receive, understand, respond and follow verbal and written communications and instructions.
- Must be able to communicate, take direction well, and work cooperatively with other colleagues. One year marine experience preferred.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Valid picture identification required. Valid Transportation Workers Identification Card (TWIC) preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The employee must be able to meet the physical requirements of this position, including:
- Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions and on marine vessels in water
- Able to safely execute duties in and around heavy equipment/large machinery in marine dredging and marine construction job sites
- Able to wear the personal protective equipment (PPE) required of various construction work environments (hard hats, personal floatation devices, safety glasses, respirators, etc.)
