Summary:
The Nursing Manager/Director at the Surgery Center is responsible for overseeing all clinical operations within the surgery center, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care in the perioperative environment. This leadership role includes managing clinical staff, optimizing operational workflows, ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards, and enhancing patient outcomes. The Nursing Manager/Director will work closely with multidisciplinary teams to foster a collaborative environment, promote staff development, and support the mission and goals of the surgery center.

Summary:
The Nursing Manager/Director at the Surgery Center is responsible for overseeing all clinical operations within the surgery center, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care in the perioperative environment. This leadership role includes managing clinical staff, optimizing operational workflows, ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards, and enhancing patient outcomes. The Nursing Manager/Director will work closely with multidisciplinary teams to foster a collaborative environment, promote staff development, and support the mission and goals of the surgery center.
Key Responsibilities:
- Frequent contact with patients, families, visitors, nursing staff, physicians, and their office staff.
- Interacts regularly with the Surgery Center’s leadership team, CCHS Manager of Physician Relations, the Department of Anesthesia, CCHS Finance Department, Materials Management, Surgical Scheduling Office, and other CCHS managers and supervisors to ensure smooth operations.
- Direct supervision of the Assistant Clinical Manager, Specialty Coordinators, Registered Nurses, Surgical Technologists, and Procedure Area Technicians within the Surgery Center.
- Receives direction and support from the Director of Clinical Operations, Perioperative Services, and the SVP of Procedural Platforms.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
- BSN (Bachelor of Science in Nursing).
- Master’s degree required (preferred in nursing, healthcare, or business management).
- Minimum of five years of relevant clinical and leadership experience in perioperative nursing, ideally within a surgery center or related setting.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Perioperative nursing practices, surgical procedures, and patient care protocols.
- Regulatory standards and quality improvement practices in a surgery center.
- Social, political, and economic influences affect healthcare programs.
Skills in:
- Effective decision-making and problem-solving within a fast-paced surgical environment.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Leadership and mentorship abilities, with experience in supervising clinical staff.
- Financial management, including budgeting, resource allocation, and cost control.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, with the ability to engage with diverse stakeholders.
- Conflict resolution and interpersonal skills.
Abilities:
- Ability to manage operational and clinical challenges in a surgery center.
- Ability to lead and motivate a team, while fostering a positive work environment.
- Ability to direct, evaluate, and improve staff performance and clinical outcomes.
- Special Requirements:
- Current RN licensure in the State of Delaware.
- Active participation in professional nursing activities.
- Required: Current specialty certification (CNOR preferred).
- Required: BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
Physical Demands:
- The position involves standing, walking, bending, lifting, pushing, pulling, carrying, reaching, twisting, handling, stooping, and climbing, as outlined in the unit-based Physical Demands Checklist.
- The role requires being on your feet for most of the shift, with frequent walking and standing.
Working Conditions:
- Generally pleasant working conditions in a busy surgery center environment.
- Some travel between campuses may be required.
