Job Summary:
Responsible for all HR activities at the assigned site location to include monitoring and ensuring compliance with Human Resource laws, regulations, policies, and procedures; facilitating and supporting the highest standards of team member recruitment, selection, orientation and retention; promoting a fair, respectful, mature, inclusive and challenging workplace culture; and providing oversight of systems for training and continued development, reward and recognition, policies and practices, communication, benefits, performance management, administrative compliance, reporting and record keeping. Proactive partner to the General Manager and leadership team. Promotes a servant leadership culture.
Key Responsibilities:
● Actively support and promote the BJ's Wholesale Club Culture on a daily basis
● Responsible for the development of facility Human Resource Department goals and objectives in partnership with direct supervisor and General Manager.
● Develop location specific recruitment strategy to ensure a healthy pipeline and assess processes to ensure recruitment and selection of high caliber team members.
● Proactively ensure that the warehouse is appropriately staffed at all times.
● Ensure that the warehouse is retaining team members by using the Burris Coaching and Counseling model to problem-solve issues before they impact the team member and the operations
● Serve as SME (Subject Matter Expert) for implementing and maintaining training programs, including training and consistent coaching of hiring teams and hiring panels
● Knowledge of all Human Resource related policies, practices, and systems to ensure legal and responsible business practice compliance
● Apply Human Resources policies and practices in a fair and equitable manner. Find solutions that promote positive relationships between team members.
● Remain current on state, federal, and local laws and regulations
● Ensure all offer letters are in approved format and special conditions related to relocation, PTO, bonus, etc are first approved by the CHRO. Ensure all terminations and severance are coordinated and approved by the CHRO. Partner with direct supervisor to obtain needed approvals.
● Maintain open and proactive communication with direct supervisor to ensure alignment and to support location and/or division goals
● Administration of performance feedback and management systems for individual and team performance, development, and training
● Develop HR reports and assist in evaluation of statistics/results
● Provide HR support, outside of the traditional office environment, visiting the warehouse work areas multiple times per day to practice proactive HR and to engage with the supervisors and team members
● Oversight to ensure site level payroll is accurately submitted by processing deadline to Milford on regular and “crunch” payrolls
● Oversight for consistent completion of pre-employment paperwork, pre-hire drug testing and background check, new hire paperwork/orientation, and benefit enrollment per company standard
● Provide oversight to ensure scanning and electronic filing of all human resources and/or personnel file related documents in a timely manner. Perform record keeping so transactions are error free
● Ensure Team Members are kept updated on programs through flyers, brochures and supervisor updates, etc.; customize a communication strategy to ensure success in your facility.
● Interact effectively and in a positive manner with team members in groups and one-to-one
● Assist in facilitating local team member engagement activities and programs
● If unionized facility- assist with grievance discussions and negotiations
● In non-union facility- assist in assuring that practices and policies are conducive to remaining union free
● Administer return to work programs and filing of Workers Compensation claims
● Recommend and administer recognition programs, announcements and awards for outstanding performance
● Develop and coordinate facilitating participation in local community relations programs (such as United Way, etc)
● Partner with Safety Manager to understand and support cross functions and Emergency Procedures
● Engage leadership to understand current KPI’s and discuss relevant action items
● Partner with General Manager to advise on anticipated expenses for future fiscal year budget development and operate within the approved budget while identifying opportunities for cost control
● Other duties as assigned
Education/Experience:
● High school diploma or GED with 7 to 10 years of practical experience in Human Resources, preferably in a distribution environment
● BA or BS in Human Resources, business administration or related field preferred
● Certification (HRCI or SHRM) preferred

● Ability to remain calm and focused while prioritizing requests from multiple sources
● Ability to maintain and ensure confidentiality of team member and company information
● Must be able to inspire, motivate, train, and coach others within the Human Resources function
● Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
● Ability to effectively promote Burris culture and think strategically
● Highly organized, proactive, goal-oriented and approachable
● Accuracy and attention to detail; comfortable with data and KPIs
● Proficient in computer usage to include email, word processing, spreadsheets, including but not limited to Google suite
● Knowledge of Human Resources and Payroll computer software and applications
● Ability to accommodate flexible schedules to meet the needs of the customer to include overtime, nights, weekends and holidays as required
● Willingness to relocate
● Ability to Travel (minimal, less than 10%)
Physical Demands/Equipment:
● Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs occasionally
● Must be able to sit on an almost continual basis and stand, walk, bend, or squat on an occasional basis in a normal office environment
● Must be able to walk and stand in warehouse environment on a regular basis for limited duration of time
● Must be able to wear appropriate PPE, e. g., steel toe boots, work in refrigerated and freezer temperatures at times, and safely engage team members in a warehouse environment, with loud noises and MHE
● Ability to utilize equipment for the job (such as computers, cell phone, copiers, scanners, printers, etc) Frequent to continual usage of keyboard and monitor
In accordance with the Pay Transparency requirements, the following represents a good faith estimate of the compensation range for this position. At BJ’s Wholesale Club, we carefully consider a wide range of non-discriminatory factors when determining salary. Actual salaries will vary depending on factors including but not limited to location, education, experience, and qualifications. The pay range for this position is starting from $66,000.00.
