About the Job
- Associate degree or 5-7 years of data center operations work experience
- Excellent customer service skills
- Excellent English written and verbal communication skills
- Good understanding of tape technology
- Good understanding of facilities infrastructure
- Vast knowledge of electrical switchgear, generator, UPS, HVAC systems, and CRE unit maintenance
- IT industry certifications such as CompTIA Certifications
Activities in Scope:
All cabling work is to be performed on the 3rd shift between the hours of 11 pm and 6 am local time. The required tasks include:
- Monitor all DCRM installation tickets for new cabling requirements.
- Install all patches required between the IT devices using industry-acceptable best practices in accordance with the local data center standards.
- No “piano strings”
- No excessive extra-length cords.
- Label both ends of all patch cords with the same label information using local standards.
- Create, update, and save all patch schedules to the DCRM records or appropriate shared drive.
- Update DCRM tickets with appropriate notes as the work is completed.
- Update DCtraks as appropriate.
- Monitor all DCRM - work request tickets for any break / fix - troubleshooting of network connections.
- The cabling team will perform level one troubleshooting of the network connections before escalating to the client staff for any hardware support troubleshooting such as SFP replacement or NIC replacements.
- Replace any bad network cabling as required to fix the trouble.
- Cabling requests could be for new servers, Network switches, and SAN connections.
- Complete the installation of patches and cutover for all network or SAN hardware refreshes.
- Make (plug in) all necessary connections to the hardware. Verify link light indication. If no link light, ensure the cable pathway and then escalate to HSS for further troubleshooting.
- Maintain an inventory of all MM, SM, or copper cables as required using the DCtracks inventory tool and local standard inventory levels for each type and length of cable.
- The Selected candidate will be responsible for creating the purchase list every quarter to order and replenish the stock.
- Maintain the trunk and patch panel distribution capacity in data centers, understanding the purchasing lead time this material has.
Support vendor access and repairs by:
- Approving vendor on-site access utilizing AYS - change management system and work rules/policies
- -Removing and documenting all parts distribution using Swinfo - HRS tracking tool.
- -Remove all old cables within 10 days of a device decom request. Make any necessary updates to tracks.
