Role Description:
Provides technical leadership for architecture, design, documentation and maintenance of an Oracle databases and related systems.
Database administrator is needed for redesigning CDRSS.
Currently developing a replacement system for our existing disease surveillance and reporting system known as the Communicable Disease Reporting and Surveillance System (CDRSS). The CDRSS is fully integrated with electronic laboratory reporting (ELR) and is used throughout the state by all the entire public health community including staff from NJDOH Communicable Disease Service (CDS), Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD) and Occupational Health programs; public health nurses, health officers and other staff at all 85 local health departments serving the 565 municipalities in NJ; infection control professionals (ICPs) and laboratory staff at hospitals; commercial laboratory staff from several labs licensed in NJ; and staff from the NJDOH Public Health and Environmental Laboratory (PHEL). As CDRSS is continuously monitoring and updating the security and updating technology and software to improve workflow and functionality and also meet the new security standards mandated by the NJ State Office of Information Technology.
Discussions with public health staff highlighted the need to improve functionality for active monitoring (AM) and direct active monitoring (DAM) of diseases such as viral hemorrhagic fevers (VHF) as experienced during the recent Ebola-virus disease (EVD) related activities. The current CDRSS allows flexibility to add disease specific risk factors, signs, symptoms, and lab tests, while the rest of the screens and fields remain the same for all diseases.
