DATABASE ADMINISTRATOR (DBA) - SAN BERNARDINO
Sierra Cybernetics is seeking a Database Administrator to support our government client, the county of San Bernardino.
You need to have a strong background in both SQL Server and MySQL database management, performance tuning, and high-availability solutions. At least 5 years of hands-on experience working with databases in a high-performance environment and will be responsible for ensuring the health and integrity of the county’s database infrastructure.
This will be a 6-month assignment with possible extension.
A hybrid position that is onsite 2-3 times a week in San Bernardino.
Key Responsibilities:
- Administer and maintain SQL Server and MySQL databases, ensuring optimal performance, reliability, and security.
- Perform Performance Tuning and Optimization (PTO) for large, complex database systems to ensure peak performance.
- Manage and execute backup, restore, and recovery processes in accordance with business continuity plans.
- Design, implement, and monitor High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) solutions for SQL Server environments.
- Collaborate with the infrastructure team to maintain and configure Windows Server environments, including Active Directory management.
- Perform regular database health checks and provide proactive recommendations to enhance system reliability.
- Work with development teams to support new application releases and database schema changes.
- Provide expert-level support for database-related incidents, working swiftly to resolve issues and minimize downtime.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest trends and technologies in database management, particularly Azure SQL.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as a SQL Server Database Administrator.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience with MySQL Server Administration.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience with Performance Tuning and Optimization (PTO).
- Minimum of 5 years of experience managing backups, restores, and recovery models.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience implementing and managing High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) options for SQL Server.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience working with Windows Server, including Active Directory.
- Experience with Azure SQL is a plus.
- Certifications such as MCTS, MCITP, or MVP are a plus.
Preferred Skills:
- Familiarity with Azure Cloud Services and Azure SQL deployments.
- Experience with scripting and automation tools (e.g., PowerShell, T-SQL, etc.) for database management.
- Understanding of security best practices and encryption for database systems.
