Job Title: Database Administrator – SQL Specialist
THIS POSITION IS SHORT TERM, MAX 1000 HOURS PER CALENDAR YEAR
North Wind Services is actively seeking individuals who can contribute to national security within the science, technology, and engineering fields as part of our supplemental labor team at vital federal research and development installations supporting the Department of Energy. Qualified applicants must be a US citizen, at least 18 years of age, and able to meet pre-employment requirements including any required physicals, drug screen, and/or background investigation to satisfy clearance requirements from the Department of Energy.
Successful candidates will be employees of NWS, a premier government contractor charged with employing highly motivated and well-qualified personnel who can advance the missions of the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in Livermore, CA. Though employed by NWS, the employee will take day-to-day direction from technical personnel employed directly by the research laboratories. Pay, benefits, Human Resource, and Employment Management functions are provided by NWS.
The Center for Accelerator Mass Spectrometry (CAMS) in the Physical and Life Sciences Directorate (PLS) has an opening for a Database Administrator with an emphasis in SQLS to provide advanced technical support for the Marshall Islands Program and related studies in human health, environmental assessments, and nuclear forensics. The Marshall Islands Program seeks to provide understanding of the long-term behavior of fallout radionuclide in coral atoll ecosystems. The successful candidate will help configure and optimize LABWORKS Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) software to enhance laboratory performance and develop a SQL database for a large volume of environmental measurements to enable data queries, extraction, reporting and analysis. The successful candidate will report to the Program Leader of the Marshall Islands Dose Assessment and Radioecology Program through the Center for Accelerator Mass Spectrometry (CAMS).
Essential Duties
- Customize LABWORKS LIMS software to enhance workflows and ensure data integrity within an analytical laboratory setting.
- Develop a SQL database for conducting data queries, extraction, reporting and analysis.
- Collaborate with laboratory and IT staff to identify data management needs.
- Provide training and documentation for end-users on LIMS software and SQL best practices.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to LIMS and SQL databases.
- Interact effectively with laboratory and IT staff by listening and learning, asking questions, and following lab rules and regulations.
- Perform other job duties as assigned.
Essential Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
- Proven experience in managing and utilizing LIMS (LABWORKS) within a laboratory setting.
- Strong proficiency in SQL database development, management, and query writing.
- Familiarity with laboratory operations and database management best practices.
- Strong communication skills for effective interactions with laboratory and IT staff and LIMS software vendors.
Special Requirements
Pre-Placement Medical Exam: A job-related pre-placement medical examination may be required.

Anticipated Clearance Level: P (position will be cleared to this level). Applicants selected will be subject to a federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter. In addition, all L or Q cleared employees are subject to random drug testing. Q-level clearance requires U.S. citizenship. If you hold multiple citizenships (U.S. and another country), you may be required to renounce your non-U.S. citizenship before a DOE L or Q clearance will be processed/granted.
