Position Summary
Analyzes and implements the physical database design and structures, including base definition, structure, documentation, backup, recovery, and performance in support of business applications. Ensures the quality of database environments through comprehensive data backup and recovery, maintenance, data availability, data policies, procedures, and standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Provides support for assigned databases twenty-four hours, seven days a week.
• Performs capacity planning required to create and maintain the databases. Works closely with System Administrators to forecast and implement future requirements.
• Creates and updates elements of the physical clustered nodes, database, schemas, table spaces, tables, indexes, views, stored procedures, triggers, referential integrity, etc.
• Creates and maintains PowerShell scripts and scheduled jobs for automation of tasks.
• Maintains, implements, and enforces user and object-level security for all SQL Server databases.
• Participates in the testing and evaluation of database-related software products.
• Tests database software and upgrades while also maintaining patches.
• Works with application developers on logical and physical database design.
• Writes and tunes SQL queries for performance optimization.
• Handles calls from customers and troubleshoots database issues. Escalates complex issues to the next level of authority. Acts as a liaison for all outsourced database consulting companies.
• Performs database troubleshooting and works with the Development Team on application issues. Provides a focal point on calls to Oracle for technical support.
• Migrates code and database changes through various stages of the development cycle.
• Provides administration and maintains the backup environment for Windows and Linux servers. Responsible for database backup, recovery, monitoring, and tuning.
• Performs Teradata System administration and Backup administration.
Qualification
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• A bachelor’s degree in information systems, business administration, or technology or equivalent experience is required.
• Minimum of three years of database administration experience required.
• Strong knowledge of SQL required.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills required.
• Strong knowledge of SQL Server including Failover Clustering, Always On Clustering, and other utilities required.
• Strong knowledge of Windows OS including PowerShell scripting, is required.
• Knowledge of Teradata data warehouse systems preferred.
