This Data Scientist role will provide technical and programmatic support in the DHS Science and Technology Directorate, as part of a multidisciplinary team of high-performance professionals supporting the client's most vexing technical and technological challenges, and developing solutions to counter current, emerging, and future homeland security threats. This role will be working with our clients to design, create, evaluate, and maintain solutions using data science and machine learning. This role will work with various teams to identify, manage, research, develop, and present data analytics projects and solutions for various national security and intelligence missions, while also providing client-facing advisory services to inform program strategy and evaluate technical projects across DHS.
This team consists of developers, scientists, engineers, researchers, and analysts that have served federal, state, and local government clients on high-consequence problems in data analytics and AI/ML for over 20 years. The team is engaged across multiple federal government customers and has been instrumental in making our customers’ programs successful.
The successful candidate will be self-motivated, operate well in a matrixed environment, be able to learn, digest, and provide technical guidance on a broad spectrum of technical subjects, and be able to distill and communicate complex technical concepts to enable nontechnical managers to make informed decisions. The successful candidate will enjoy digging into complex problems, rapidly prototyping and evaluating solutions, and developing new skills as part of a small team.
This role may require non-local travel (limited- 4x/year), and some DC metro area local travel.
- 10+ years of relevant experience or an advanced degree and 5+ years of experience
- SECRET clearance, or eligibility to receive a SECRET clearance
- Eligibility to obtain DHS Suitability.
- Security Clearance (minimum SECRET, up to TS/SCI desired) and DHS Suitability are highly preferred.
- Minimum three years hands on experience working with data science methods such as: statistical modeling, information retrieval, graph analysis, data mining, machine learning, and data visualization.
- Experience with the following programming languages: Python, C++, SQL, Bash, Scala, Java.
- Must be able to obtain SECRET level government clearance and DHS Suitability.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, PowerPoint and Word.
- Experience with one or more data science libraries/tools such as Scikit Learn, Weka, Orange, or XGBoost.
- Familiar with dimensionality reduction techniques such as PCA, UMAP, and tSNE.
- Familiar with clustering techniques such as K-Means and Gaussian Mixtures.
- Experience identifying analytics approaches, and development of supporting analytical data sets.
- Experience evaluating machine learning-based algorithms to assess performance and robustness.
- Documented communication skills (oral and written) including the production of polished documents.
- History of managing time across more than one initiative and applying sound judgment.
