At Blackspoke, people are our differentiator. As a Data Science Analyst/Engineer, you will help ensure today is safe and tomorrow is smarter. Your work depends on a Mid-level Data Science Analyst/Engineer joining our team to support our intelligence customer in Springfield, VA.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
- Work closely with the Lead Data Science Librarian to build and maintain the Metadata Application Profile (MAP), assess metadata quality, and plan/coordinate metadata enhancement and remediation.
- Determine/monitor MAP accuracy by conducting queries against data holdings in native systems and using the System User Interface (UI), API, and Solr UI.
- Support Systems Engineers and Software Developers by creating design documents for new Data Stores, identifying the metadata fields, service specifications, volumetrics, and standards needed to integrate into the Search and Discovery System.
- Maintain an ongoing working relationship with government data stewards and system Data Store owners to inform end-user satisfaction and keep abreast of attribute changes.
- Investigate and respond to tickets/issues associated with metadata discrepancies or mapping.
What you will bring to us (Required Skills):
- Education and Experience:
- 6 years of Data/Systems engineering experience.
- Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering or related STEM field, or an additional 4 years of related data/systems engineering experience.
- Technical and Analytical Skills:
- Excellent communication, analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Strong technical skills, with the ability to troubleshoot simple technology problems or deficiencies.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (Excel, PowerPoint, Notepad++).
- Preferred certifications: Security+, Network+, A+ (must obtain one within six months if not currently held).
Would be nice if you bring the following (Highly Desired):
- Familiarity with metadata standards (NMF, D&R IDM, DDMS, PUBS).
- Experience with Solr Apache (building queries from UI or CMD line).
- Knowledge of Government and DoD analysis, reporting, and geospatial analysis tools (e.g., iSpy).
- Ability to read and interpret XML and XSD files.
- Experience with geospatial analysis and terminology.
- Comfortable working in an Agile Software Development environment.

Location: Springfield, VA - Must be able to commute to the customer site 5 days a week.
US Citizenship Required with Active Security Clearance.
