About the Job
The Data Engineer I is responsible for design, development, and maintenance of data pipelines to enable data analysis and reporting. They provide software solutions that move data from various source to an internal or external destination, such as data warehouse. They are responsible for data infrastructure and determining proper data formats to ensure data is ready for use. They combine, optimize, and manage multiple big data sources and implement data frameworks and/or architectures. Data Engineers require a professional degree with training that supports a strong understanding in math, statistics, analytics, and logic-based processes. System Specific Duties and Responsibilities: • Provide thought leadership and acts as a subject matter expert in analytical approaches and methodology. • Participate with system and project implementations. • Promote a culture of data-driven decision making. • Contribute towards the future technology, process, and financial needs of the health system. • Assess and assist with the adoption of toolsets that drive innovation. • Build, maintain and improve data pipeline systems across the organization. • Assist with initiatives to meet or exceed clinical and financial performance expectations and key metrics. • Stay informed and keep up with industry trends and best practices by attending data conferences, workshop and seminars subsequently imparting that information to other team members. Education: * Bachelor’s degree required or equivalent experience required Experience * 1+ Years of Position-Related Experience The kind of position-related experience includes: * A minimum of one year of experience as a data engineer is required along with working knowledge of database reporting. * Engineer must obtain basic expertise in data pipeline toolsets and data modeling solutions specific to Marshall Health Network within one year of accepting this position. * Engineer must have a strong technical background and advanced math and problem-solving skills. * Good documentation, communication, and interpersonal skills are required. * Engineer should have strong SQL skills, including the manipulation and management of data. * Engineer will also be expected to assist in the creation of databases including designing and implementing extract, load, and transform pipelines. * Engineer must have great intuition about data and understand the best practices and procedures for storing and accessing data. * Engineer must have strong software development skills focusing on data transformation and delivery. * Experience working with healthcare data and documents. * Engineer should be proficient with the following technologies: * Advanced SQL skills including data manipulation and data definition language statements. * Experience working with enterprise data warehouse and data mart construction tools (including dbt). * Stored procedure creation for Snowflake, Cerner CCL, and MS SQL Server. * ETL (extract, transform, and load) pipeline tools such as MS SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS). * Experience using Python or R for data manipulation and API data retrieval (i.e. FHIR). * No additional Certifications/Registrations are required.
