JOB TITLE: Data Center Technician
LOCATION: Onsite in Buffalo, NY
DURATION: 6 month contract to hire
RATE RANGE: $31-41/hour
SUMMARY:
The Data Center Technician is essential for the maintenance, management, and operation of a data center facility. They are responsible for ensuring the reliability, security, and efficiency of data center infrastructure, including servers, networking equipment, and cooling systems.
What You'll Do
- Perform routine maintenance and inspections of data center hardware, including servers, storage devices, and networking equipment
- Troubleshoot and diagnose hardware issues, coordinating with vendors for repairs or replacements as needed
- Install, configure, and maintain server hardware and software
- Monitor server performance and take proactive measures to optimize performance and prevent downtime
- Manage and configure network switches, routers, and firewalls
- Monitor network traffic and address connectivity issues promptly
- Implement and enforce security protocols to safeguard data center assets and prevent unauthorized access
- Monitor power distribution and backup systems (UPS) to ensure uninterrupted operation
- Maintain detailed records of equipment inventory, maintenance activities, and system configurations
- Follow disaster recovery plans to minimize data center downtime

- Strong familiarity with operating systems (e.g., Linux, Windows) and server virtualization
- Competence in data center management tools and software
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work effectively in a 24/7 operational environment
