Position Description
Job Title: Daily Substitute Teachers
Job Status: Full-time or Part-time
Openings: Multiple
Reporting Functions: Reports to the School Principal
Job Function: A daily substitute teacher fills in for the classroom teacher (K-8th grade) in their temporary absence. This daily substitute teacher will follow the constructed lesson plans, and daily activities while guiding students in the classroom setting.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintain a well-managed classroom and a safe, positive learning environment.
- Supervise students in and out of the classroom, including in the halls, on the playground, and in the cafeteria.
- Follow and implement lesson plans, classwork, homework, and tests. If needed, may attend parent-teacher conferences.
- Provide appropriate material and resources for students to engage in learning.
- Compile a report for the teacher that includes student attendance, lesson-plan progress, disciplinary actions, and positive developments.
- Knowledge of emergency evacuation routes, school procedures, and regulations for the classrooms assigned.
- Supports the school in stimulating and advancing the ongoing development of an organizational culture characterized by a commitment to faith, continuous learning, quality, integrity, mutual respect, and Catholic values.
- Models the expectations of the school and diocese according to the mission and vision espoused, as well as those expectations set forth in the school and diocesan handbooks.
- Other duties as assigned by the Principal or his/her designee.

Educational Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Education or Education related field.
- Teaching certification is a plus.
Other Requirements:
- Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and supervise an educational program set by the classroom teacher.
- Must communicate effectively with parents, students, and co-workers in a positive and enthusiastic manner.
- Possess an understanding of child development and the skills necessary to relate to the students being taught.
- Possess an understanding of the supervision of employees and the communication skills necessary to relate to adult employees and volunteers in a collegial, as well as effective, and efficient manner.
- Able to maintain a high level of energy. Ability to respond calmly to overwhelming and difficult situations.
- Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality, a high degree of credibility, integrity, and self-confidence is essential.
PRIOR TO INTERVIEW: Clear records of Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Record Check (PATCH), Pennsylvania Child Abuse History, and Federal Bureau of Investigation Criminal Background Fingerprint Check as required under Commonwealth of Pennsylvania's Act 153 of 2014 (at least 1 year old.) As well as attendance at a Protecting God's Children class and Mandated Reporter Training.

Physical Demands: The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, and talk or hear; frequent use of equipment including repetitive motions and computer eye fatigue; possible biological exposure to bacteria and communicable diseases. Occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, lift and/or move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment; may occasionally climb stairs or ladders. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word: hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities.
Working Conditions: Normal classroom setting with working hours of 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. May be required to work outside normal hours to attend meetings, open houses, and workshops.
