Job Description:
- A cytotechnologist is a specialized medical laboratory professional who examines cells under a microscope to detect abnormalities and diseases, particularly cancerous or pre-cancerous conditions.
- Primary responsibility is to analyze cell samples obtained through various procedures such as Pap smears, fine needle aspirations, and other body fluid specimens.
- Examine cell samples under a microscope to identify any abnormalities in cell structure, size, shape, and coloration.
- They use various staining techniques to highlight cellular features and distinguish normal cells from abnormal ones.
- One of the primary duties of a cytotechnologist is to screen Pap smears for cervical cancer and other gynecological abnormalities.
- They evaluate the presence of abnormal cells indicative of precancerous or cancerous conditions.
- Cytotechnologists analyze cell samples obtained through fine needle aspiration procedures, which involve extracting cells from lumps or masses in various parts of the body.
- They assess the cellular characteristics to aid in the diagnosis of cancer or other diseases.
Education:
- 2+ years of experience as a Cytotechnologist and documents travel experience.
- Current Cytology Cert
- ACTIVE NY License
- Cytotechnology Degree
Certifications & Licenses:
- ASCP (Cyto tech)
- BLS
- Active NY LiCENSE
