About the Job
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Variety of experience and training with custodial and light maintenance-related responsibilities
- Possess a valid Nebraska driver's license
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of basic technology for communication; cleaning products and the safety regulations related to the job position; and operation of facility equipment and tools.
- Basic skills related to problem solving, organizational, time management, organization and communication skills; self-motivated and self-starter; flexible; anticipate and initiate work; and work cooperatively with others.
- Ability to perform routine tasks independently; operate a personal computer in order to complete all functions of daily operations and communication related to the job position; coordinate with other professional and support staff in providing a clean and safe environment; and physical ability to lift and work while standing.
- Completion of required training, including but not limited to: State of Nebraska Defensive Driving Course; Pupil Transportation Training/Permit; CPR Certification and Suicide Prevention.
- Represent ESU 4 and the Nebraska Center for the Education of Children Who Are Blind or Visually Impaired in a professional manner in dress, attitude, and actions.
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
- Complete routine work in cleaning the NCECBVI facility/campus, and perform basic maintenance duties.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform daily job duties and routines under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor.
- Provide general sanitizing and cleaning duties such as dusting, cleaning restrooms, window washing, collecting trash, and floor maintenance such as sweeping, vacuuming and shampooing carpeting, wet mopping, and stripping/waxing floors of classrooms, hallways, bathrooms, and offices.
- Clean, sanitize, and polish drinking fountains, sinks, plumbing fixtures, door handles/knobs, toilets and restock supplies.
- Perform "deep cleaning" duties during summer months, student breaks, and as requested during the school year.
- Assist with routine duties related to the cleanliness of school vehicles (washing, vacuuming, etc).
- Assist with general facility upkeep duties such as painting, meeting room setup, and other facility projects as requested.
- Collaborate with staff to keep cleaning supplies stocked and available.
- Assist with laundry throughout the facility.
- Assist with mowing, weed eating, snow removal, leaf pick-up, and other outdoor activities as requested.
- Assist with general maintenance duties (i.e. changing light bulbs, minimal plumbing, tasks that require use of basic hand tools, etc).
- Report safety concerns and/or malfunctions of equipment, to be addressed by the supervisor(s) and/or safety committee.
- Participate in professional development/in-service training and meetings as appropriate/required.
- Willingness to assist with pupil transportation as requested.
- Other duties as assigned.
SALARY:
- Based on experience and education
WORK AGREEMENT:
- Approximately 241 work days per year (July through June)
- Designated work days to conduct various duties such as snow removal and/or deep cleaning projects when NCECBVI is closed for breaks.
WORK HOURS:
- Work days/hours may vary depending on school year calendar and summer schedules/activities, inclement weather, construction projects, and emergency situations.
