Scattered Site Custodian / Groundskeeper
General Conditions
1. This is a part-time position involving demonstrated ability to keep the assigned residential multi-family buildings, laundry rooms, community centers / rooms and grounds in clean and orderly condition with good curb appeal. The custodian / groundskeeper performs cleaning duties such as sweeping / mopping floors, washing walls and cleaning glass, sanitizing bathroom fixtures and removing rubbish. Grounds-keeping duties generally involve the removal of litter and debris and emptying exterior trash cans / cigarette containers, Duties include notifying management of need for repairs, to clear snow / ice from sidewalks, and for follow-up contact with residents causing problems / concerns for the developments.
2. Position is considered a regular part-time job subject to all provisions of the SCCHA Personnel Policy. The position normally involves 19.5 hours of work per week. The position is considered hourly, although compensation is based on a weekly wage rate. The position is considered non- exempt under the Federal Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
3. The work is routine and of a repetitive nature, involving basic custodian / janitorial skills. The ability to work independently with minimum supervision is essential to successfully completing assigned duties and tasks. There is the potential for considerable contact / interaction with a diverse resident population. Professionally representing SCCHA at all times is essential. Incumbent must demonstrate effective communication skills when interacting with residents, co-workers, supervisors, contract vendors, and members of the public.
4. All assigned duties will be consistent with the attached “Summary of Duties” which is subject to periodic change or modification and to be performed under the direct supervision of the Property Manager, the auspices of the Asset Management Director and Executive Director, subject to all policies and regulations established by the Board of Commissioners.

4. Gardenwood Apartments, 501-505 South Plum Street, Lebanon, IL 62254 (grounds / trash enclosure) - Weekly
5. SCCHA Central Office, 1790 South 74th St., Belleville, IL 62223 (grounds and the three exterior trash cans and two cigarette disposal containers) - Weekly
6. Amber Court, North 41st Street and Amber Court, Belleville, IL 62226 (Community Center cleaning) - Monthly
7. Cedar Ridge Apartments, 101 North Fritz Street, Lebanon, IL 62254 (Laundry Room) – Every two weeks

Summary of Assigned Duties
Note: These duties are performed consistent with frequency noted above, unless noted otherwise below.
• Sweep and wet mop hard surface floors.
• Vacuum carpeted areas.
• Broom sweep common area emergency exit stairwells (Bel-Plaza 1 & 2 Buildings).
• Clean glass areas with Windex or similar product.
• Clean bathroom mirrors with Windex or similar product.
• Clean and sanitize bathroom fixtures (toilet, sink, paper towel dispensers, etc.) with appropriate product.
• Replenish paper towel holders in bathrooms and common area kitchens.
• Replenish toilet paper in common area bathrooms.
• Wipe clean appliances (stove, refrigerator, etc.) and countertops in common area kitchens.
• Wipe clean appliances (washers, dryers, etc.) and other surfaces in common area laundry rooms (including emptying trash receptacles).
• Empty common area waste baskets and trash bags (interior and exterior).
• Empty exterior cigarette containers at all locations where applicable.
• Dust all common area furniture / televisions (including but not necessarily limited to coffee tables, end tables, shelves, cabinets), window ledges and other surfaces.
• Clean elevators (vacuum carpet or sweep / mop hard surface floors, wipe down walls, rails and control panels).
• Wipe off / dust all handrails and common area doors, and clean glass surfaces such as glass door inserts and fire extinguisher compartments in common area hallways.
• Strip, wax and buff tile floor surfaces (once a year).
• Pick-up trash and debris from the exterior of the building, including lawn areas, parking spaces, sidewalks, etc. Note: At locations where “grounds” is not included in the service description, employee shall police (pick-up trash / debris) the area immediately around the service location. For example, at the Cedar Ridge Laundry Room, employee would pick-up any litter / debris in the parking spaces, sidewalks, lawn area and building exterior in close proximity (within 15’) of the entry.
Supplies, Materials and Equipment
All cleaning supplies, materials and equipment are provided by SCCHA.
Other
Employee eligible for mileage reimbursement when traveling to locations outside of Belleville / Swansea.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS
Good Character - No serious convictions (consent to criminal background check required); two
personal references from local area; ability to be insured under SCCHA’s
automobile insurance policy. Trustworthy / honest.
General - Familiarity with the local area; resident of SCCHA service jurisdiction preferred;
current or former recipient of federal housing assistance preferred.
Physical Condition - Ability to perform the tasks assigned and duties of the position.

Experience - Prior related work experience preferred. Demonstrated ability to successfully
perform the assigned work / job duties preferred.
Skills - Those required to perform the assigned work / job duties. Good inter-personal
skills, pleasant / agreeable personality. Ability to work with diverse populations.
Must work effectively with minimum direct supervision.
Transportation - Valid driver’s license on file at all times; ability to furnish and willingness to use
personal car for SCCHA business is essential. Must provide evidence of State
minimum vehicle insurance coverage.
