 Primary Purpose:

Performs daily custodial tasks that provide school personnel, students, and the public with an environmentally safe, attractive, comfortable, clean and efficient place in which to work and conduct school activities.  

Duties/Responsibilities: 

• Maintains campus buildings, facilities, grounds, and equipment by performing regular janitorial and maintenance tasks

• Performs routine custodial and maintenance tasks
• Perform cafeteria breakfast and lunch dining area cleaning and setup
• Perform cleaning on restrooms, hallways, classrooms and other common areas
• Perform litter removal and routine cleaning of the exterior of assigned building(s) and property
• Perform light-duty repairs and maintenance such as painting or changing light bulbs

• Cleaning bodily fluids and disinfecting surfaces
• Perform setup for campus events
• Performs and/or oversees contractors who perform non-routine maintenance tasks and summer refresh tasks
• Pressure washing and other cleaning of the building exterior
• Re-painting walls in classrooms and walls inside the building

• Moving furniture in preparation for stripping and waxing operations
• Assisting in stripping and waxing operations
• Notifies school administration of any needed major repairs or equipment failure  
• Remains vigilant on safety and security issues and notifies school administration of any safety or security issues that arise
• Maintains organization and cleanliness of storage, supply and maintenance areas; maintains a record of inventory and orders supplies as needed and requests re-supply

• Responds to emergency situations in order to confine, resolve or prevent injurious or otherwise hazardous conditions
• Report emergencies to the Operations Director
• Additional duties as assigned

Qualifications: 

Education, Experience, and/or Certification(s) 

• Education Requirements: High School Diploma or GED equivalent OR minimum 2 years’ experience in the janitorial service industry OR 2 years’ experience in building maintenance. Experience working in a school environment preferred but not required.
• Experience Requirements: Experience working with janitorial machinery (floor scrubbers, floor buffers, restroom cleaning machines) preferred but not required.
• Special Skills/Certifications: None required

Required Skills/Abilities:

• Communication Skills: Ability to receive and understand verbal and written instructions in English.
• Bi-lingual Sills: No bi-lingual skills are required.
• Technology: To perform this job successfully, an individual should possess the ability to learn and use computer software to view work orders for the day. Ability to use basic office equipment. This position will also require the ability to learn how to operate a burglar alarm. Applicant must also be able to use a smart phone to send and receive photos and text messages. Ability to use standard custodial equipment computerized displays and controls. Ability to use a computer to complete video or teleconference training

• Regularly required to reach, balance, stoop, kneel, twist, bend, climb and crawl
• Frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
• Frequently required to lift or move furniture or supplies such as, but not limited to café tables, office supplies and janitorial supplies
• Frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and exposed electrical terminals
• Extended periods of being outside during extreme hot or cold weather

• Occasional exposure to fumes or airborne particles, extreme cold and extreme heat 
• Vision: distance, color, depth perception and ability to adjust focus
• Occasional exposure to loud equipment

Work Environment:  

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Work in a wide variety of environments as found in all areas of the school(s) and construction site: continual walking and standing; frequent heavy lifting and carrying; noise level is moderate and may have frequent interruptions. Tasks are regularly performed with potential exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as strong odors, fumes, dusts, wetness, humidity, machinery, vibrations, temperature and noise extremes, disease, pathogenic substances and toxic/poisonous agents. There may be activity from other employees and students of a distracting nature.
