Description:Akima Facilities Operations is currently seeking a Day Shift custodian to support the NIH Contact in Bethesda, MD
Responsibilities:
- Performs entry-level to moderate (journeyman-level) custodial work.
- Work involves cleaning and caring for the interior areas of federal buildings; maintaining custodial equipment; requesting supplies; and participating in performing minor equipment repairs.
- May train lower-level custodial workers. Works under general supervision with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
- Cleans and keeps in an orderly condition administrative areas, laboratories, public common areas, hallways and corridors, restrooms, and other assigned premises.
- Sweeping, mopping or scrubbing, vacuuming and polishing a variety of floor surfaces, including vinyl and ceramic tile, carpet and wood; removing chips, trash, and other refuse; dusting equipment, furniture, or fixtures; polishing metal fixtures or trimmings; providing supplies and minor maintenance services; and cleaning lavatories, showers, and restroom fixtures, stall dividers, doors and floors.
- Performs special cleaning projects as well as daily cleaning duties in accordance with standard procedures of the custodial department and with client objectives. Uses cleaning equipment, including commercial vacuums, wet mops, large wringers and other necessary equipment, tools, chemicals and supplies.
- Will dry and wet mop floors; may scrub and buff floors with rotor and other machines; vacuum carpets to clean and control bacteria; transports trash from various collection points to pick-up area; may perform special cleaning of walls, mirrors, lighting fixtures, and other appurtenances.
- Assists in cleaning emergency spills that are observed or as requested, maintains assigned equipment for cleanliness and requests repairs when needed, reports need for repairs to custodial equipment, furniture, building and fixtures.
- 3 years’ experience in custodial work.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Demonstrated knowledge of basic and advanced cleaning techniques and procedures.
- Demonstrated skill in the use of custodial materials and chemicals; and in the operation of custodial equipment such as mop wringers and vacuum cleaners, buffers and scrubbers.
- Ability to read, write, understand and speak English.
- Must be able to stand, walk, bend and reach for long periods of time
