Melmark is a nonprofit organization providing clinically-sophisticated evidence-based special education, residential, vocational, and therapeutic services for children and adults diagnosed with autism spectrum disorders, developmental and intellectual disabilities, acquired brain injuries, medical complexities, and other neurological and genetic disorders.
Curriculum Coordinator Overview
The Curriculum Coordinator will assist Behavior Analysts in the planning, assessment and development of Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and Individual Support Plans (ISPs), teaching plans and student progress monitoring. Coordinates communication with sending school districts and serves as Melmark representative with LEA’s and Directors of Special Education/Pupil Services. Must be fluent in evidence-based instructional methods and teaching procedures and have an ability to coach and train staff in these procedures. Must have knowledge of PA Curriculum Frameworks and Alternate Assessments for PA and sending states (e.g., NY, NJ). This individual will also assist with other administrative projects as needed.

- Starting Salary Information
- Level 1 SPED Teacher Cert and Bachelors: $60,320.00 (+) based on years of experience
- Level 1 SPED Teacher Cert and Masters: $65,520.00 (+) based on years of experience
- Level 2 SPED Teacher Cert or BCBA Cert: $72,280.00 (+) based on years of experience
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Special Education or related field with an emphasis in Applied Behavior Analysis required, Master’s Degree must be attained within 2 years in the role.
- Special Education certification issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Education preferred or eligible.
- A valid US driver’s license and a minimum age of twenty-one (21) years old. Must be capable of attaining approved Melmark driver status.
- Minimum of three (3) year teaching experience in settings that serve individuals with developmental disabilities.
- Strong background in education, with an emphasis on special education and IEP development for individuals with special needs, acquired brain injury, neurological disorders and autism spectrum disorders.
- Education and experience in utilizing the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis in clinical or educational settings strongly preferred.
Curriculum Coordinator Responsibilities
- Ensures that three planning meetings occur for each IEP and that the team meets all deadlines for assessment or baseline data procedures, development of goals/objectives, and developing teaching plans appropriate to each IEP/ISP goal.
- Ensures goals and objectives are measurable, specific and in one year and in accordance with state standards, curriculum frameworks and any applicable regulations. Demonstrates knowledge of PA Curriculum frameworks and uses this information to guide assessment and IEP development.
- Collaborates with BAs/PMs to develop a training schedule for new employees related to IEP development and Progress Report writing, teaching plans, biweekly reviews and collecting IOA data.
- Chairs IEP meetings for all students on assigned caseload. Ensures that a copy of the attendance sheet for IEP (and IPP for residential students) is signed and placed in each student’s record.
- Ensures maximum degree of independence and functional skill-building is occurring with each student’s performance; facilitates changes as needed to teaching procedures. Works with BAs and PMs to develop strategies and modifications to facilitate progress and increase generalization and maintenance of all skills.
- Assists the Director of Admissions and Family Services with Transition Planning for assigned student, as appropriate, whether to adult services or to a less restrictive environment (e.g., prepare “Summary of Student Performance”, attend transition planning meetings or assist in compiling needed paperwork (re-evaluations, psychological reports, IEPs, etc.)
- Facilitates timely completion of PASA/alternate assessments and collaborates with the supervising BA throughout this process.
