Short Description
Assists the Registered Nurse in providing direct, indirect and non-patient care
responsibilities.
Responsible for the collection of laboratory specimens and performing EKG’s.
In addition, provides clerical support for the patient care unit.
Assume responsibilities for transcription, record keeping, and intra-departmental and interdepartmental communications.
Experience Required
Acute Care experience preferred previous hospital/unit secretary experience.
Previous hospital unit secretary, medical office assistant or medical records experience required.
Additional unit-specific qualification may be required.
Education Requirements
High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
License/Certification Requirements
Qualifications/Certifications
- Successful completion of an unlicensed health care provider/ technician program
- Completed at least one fundamental nursing course in an accredited RN Program
- 1 year or more patient care experience in a similar role.
At least one of the above qualifications/certifications must be met for hire.
AHA Basic Life Support certification - required
State Certification and Unit Secretary Certification is desirable.
Skills
- Communication – Ability to communicate with patients, visitors and coworkers
- Successful phlebotomy/EKG competency must be completed during orientation
Special Requirements
Full time nights, 36 hours a week; 7p-7a with weekend rotation
