Director of Technical Accounting and Reporting

Creative Financial Staffing has been exclusively engaged by a Boston-based REIT (Real Estate Investment Trust) to help them find a Director of Technical Accounting and Reporting to join their team.

• Key Role: This position is integral to the Reporting and SOX Compliance Function and offers the opportunity to work closely with the Controller, CAO, and CFO to enhance the accounting infrastructure as the company continues to grow.
• Leadership Exposure: Work directly with the CAO, CFO, executive team, and external auditors, becoming a vital part of the accounting and finance leadership.

The Director of Technical Accounting and Reporting will report to the CAO and take a hands-on approach to managing the company's financial reporting processes. Key duties include:

• Leading all aspects of financial reporting, including reviewing financial results, quarter-end workpapers, 10K and 10Q filings, supporting schedules, and earnings releases.
• Overseeing and maintaining compliance with SOX requirements.
• Researching, documenting, and implementing significant technical accounting standards.
• Managing reviews of purchase price allocations, quarterly performance stock unit valuations, warrant valuations, and hypothetical liquidation book value calculations.
• Conducting E.P.S. calculations and quarterly assessments for impairment indicators.
• Enhancing documentation for internal controls over financial reporting.
• Coordinating with internal and external auditors to ensure accurate and efficient reporting processes.
• Mentoring and supervising staff as needed.

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting and CPA license (Master's degree preferred but not required).
• 7+ years of experience, either:
  • At a Big 4 or national CPA firm working with public clients (ideally in the real estate industry).
  • A combination of public accounting and in-house experience.
• Expertise in SEC reporting and SOX compliance, gained either through public accounting or industry roles.
• Prior experience with REITs is highly desirable.
