Job title: Counter Sales
Pay: Starting at $20 to $24 an hour, depending on experience
Schedule: Monday-Saturday 8am to 5pm, with a rotating day off in the week.
Location: Forest Grove, Oregon
The Counter Salesperson is the first person that a customer sees when they walk into any of the retail locations. This means that the Counter Salesperson is in many cases the face of the company for customers and should demonstrate our FACE values. This position's main duty is providing sales assistance to walk in and telephone customers. As time allows, they receive and stock inventory and perform general clean up and merchandising of the store.
Directly reports to Yard Manager. Interacts daily with Yard Manager, Assistant Yard Manager, Yard Supervisor (or Operation Lead), Inventory Specialist, Contractor Salespeople, delivery people and internal & external customers.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Must be able to operate personal computer, smartphone, scanner, and any other equipment necessary for the job
- Must be able to type 30+ WPM
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Class C driver's license or reliable alternative transportation required
- Ability to speak, write, and read English required
- Knowledge of retail sales principles, practices, and protocols
- Knowledge of dimension lumber and panel products and other building materials
- Ability to ten-key by touch
- Ability to read and interpret blue prints
- Ability to concentrate and attend to detail amidst a busy work environment
- OSHA Certified Forklift License helpful
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist Inventory Specialist in maintaining an appropriate level of inventory
- Performs empty peg counts and researches variances
- As time allows, assist outside crew by loading customer vehicles and preparing loads for delivery
- Attentive to counter and phones
- Communicates with Receiver regarding the status of cancelled orders or materials returned to suppliers
- Consistently displays problem solving skills with customers and co-workers
- Keeping the store clean and maintaining the counter displays of merchandise and literature
- Notifies customer when product arrives
- Confirms delivery time with the customer after scheduled in DDMS
- Answer customer's questions, process estimates and orders for customer
- Develop and maintain a professional and effective relationship with customers
- Completes basic ERP order entry; POs, backorders, and change orders
- Invoice customers for building materials
- Order stock, special order products for customers, and process credit returns
- Ensures that appropriate paperwork is accurately completed as per company policy
- Regularly attend PK meetings
- Completed AMT training
- Follows all AR account and cash handling procedures
- Processes tax adjustments when necessary
- Coordinate tool repairs services
- Utilizes the interyard transfer system
- Understands weight, height, and length limits, to inform customer of being able to safely handle or transport material
- Knows site condition requirements for our delivery fleet
- Process ROA payments with required information
- Understands pricing levels and limits discounting
- Able to seek out product transactions and order history
- Uses all functions of Mitel
- Manages Outlook and personal notebook
- Can search inventory and open orders in all yards to meet customer's preferred option
- All other duties as assigned
The primary working conditions are at the sales counter of one of PARR's retail locations.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time
- Ability to work indoors in a normal office environment for an entire day
- Must be able to grasp, talk, hear, and operate a computer and keyboard
- Must be able to lift/push/pull up to 50 pounds and carry objects 50 feet
- Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions
- Must be able to drive a vehicle when necessary
- Both local and overnight travel may be required
