EEO/AA Additional Job Posting Information: The University of Houston, School of Theatre & Dance is seeking a Costume Shop Manager for the Theatre Department. Applicants must have an Master of Fine Arts in Costume Technology or Costume Design OR at least 3 years of experience managing a Costume Shop in an educational or professional setting. Applicants must have patternmaking abilities/training and will be expected to make patterns for costumes used in SOTD productions and will act as the Lead Draper for the Houston Shakespeare Festival. Teaching experience is useful but not required. The Costume Shop Manager works in conjunction with the Costume Operations Manager/Costume Director to make sure that the Costume Shop has adequate supplies for day to day and special project operations. They attend Production meetings and Costume Shop Meetings as needed. Also attends fittings and helps set up paperwork for fitting sheets, dressing sheets, check in sheets and laundry/dry cleaning instructions. They will also attend dress rehearsals as needed. The Costume Shop Manager is the Instructor of Record for THEA 1111 and THEA 1112, the undergraduate level Production courses. The Costume Shop Manager works in conjunction with the Costume Director and Costume Graduate students to supervise the work flow in the Costume Shop during the Production class and keeps track of attendance. They also make sure that students in THEA 1111 and THEA 1112 have the necessary training to function as crew members. The Costume Shop Manager also adheres to the timelines and deadlines delineated by the School of Theatre & Dance production calendars and design contracts. They may also supervise professional over hire contracted staff. They may also be allowed to teach an additional adjunct class. The Costume Shop Manager also oversees the Craft Rooms, Laundry area, Costume Storage and Dressing Rooms in conjunction with the Costume Director. Along with the Costume Director acts as a contact person for the borrowing of costumes and keeps track of the maintenance of equipment and machinery in the Costume Shop, Craft Rooms, and Laundry area. The Costume Shop Manager must also adhere to the Intimacy and Diversity Protocols for Accessibility and Inclusion to help facilitate full participation of a diverse student body. QualificationsQualifications Associates and 3 years experience Requires the ability and knowledge for analysis and interpretation of procedures, policies and practices attainable through specific education and/or training programs in a specialty or technical field. Advanced vocational or electronic skills or a basic knowledge of a professional field is required. An Associate's degree or certification/licensing in a technical specialty program of over 18 months and up to 3 years duration are characteristic of this field.
