Job DescriptionTurner & Townsend are looking for a personable and experienced Cost Manager / Estimator to join our team in Los Angeles, California. This role offers the chance to oversee estimating for construction projects across diverse sectors, such as data centers, life sciences, commercial real estate, and healthcare. The ideal candidate will be responsible for developing and managing cost estimates, budgets, and schedules, ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and manage detailed cost estimates for projects during the pre-construction phase.
- Prepare cost models, budgets, and financial projections for projects.
- Analyze project scope, design documents, and specifications to provide accurate cost estimates.
- Review and assess subcontractor and vendor bids to ensure competitive pricing and optimal value.
- Manage project budgets and ensure cost control measures are implemented to prevent cost overruns.
- Track and report on project costs and identify potential financial risks early in the process.
- Collaborate with project teams to develop and maintain project schedules, ensuring alignment with cost estimates and project goals.
- Work closely with construction managers, architects, engineers, and subcontractors to monitor and adjust schedules as needed.
- Identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies to ensure cost control throughout the project lifecycle.
- Assist in value engineering exercises to optimize project cost without compromising quality or scope.
- Prepare and present regular cost and financial reports to senior management and clients.
- Maintain clear communication with all project stakeholders to ensure alignment on budget and timeline.
- Assist in contract negotiations and change order management.
- Stay up-to-date on current market conditions, material prices, and labor costs, particularly in the sectors of data centers, life sciences, commercial real estate, and healthcare.
- Develop and maintain relationships with key vendors, subcontractors, and suppliers to ensure competitive pricing and quality control.
- Ensure all estimates and budgets comply with company standards, industry regulations, and project specifications.
- Monitor compliance with local, state, and federal building codes, safety standards, and environmental regulations.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams including project managers, engineers, architects, and contractors to ensure a collaborative and coordinated approach to cost management.
- Bachelor's or advanced degree in Construction Management, Quantity Surveying or Engineering, or a related field.
- A minimum of 5 years' experience in cost estimation or construction management.
- Experience working on data centers, life sciences, healthcare, and/or commercial real estate construction projects is preferable.
- Experience with both pre-construction and construction phases of projects.
- Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and current industry practices.
- Expertise in cost estimating software and tools (e.g., Procore, Buildertrend, CostX, Bluebeam, etc.).
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex plans and specifications.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong problem-solving skills and proactive approach to project challenges.
- Exceptional time management and organizational abilities.
Additional Information
The salary range for this full-time role is $120K-$140K per year. Ranges are determined by role and level and represent a good faith effort to provide a fair and equitable salary. This range is a reflection of base salary only, not of a total compensation package. Please note Turner & Townsend reserves the right to pay more or less than the posted range, depending on candidate’s experience and qualifications.
