Job Overview:
We are seeking a detail-oriented Construction Project Accountant to oversee the financial aspects of construction projects from inception to completion. This role requires expertise in construction accounting, a strong ability to manage job costing and billing, and proficiency in financial reporting. The ideal candidate thrives in fast-paced environments and has a proven record of ensuring accurate financial oversight for construction projects.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Oversight
- Monitor project budgets and financial performance to ensure alignment with budgetary constraints.
- Prepare and analyze monthly financial reports, highlighting budget vs. actual variances and project profitability.
Billing and Invoicing
- Generate and submit progress billings, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Review subcontractor invoices for compliance with budgets and timelines.
- Track accounts receivable and ensure prompt collection of payments.
Cost Control and Compliance
- Approve project-related expenses, purchase orders, and subcontractor payments.
- Conduct cost reviews and implement cost-saving measures.
- Ensure compliance with internal controls and regulatory standards.
Contract Management
- Assist in contract preparation and track change orders and amendments.
- Collaborate with Project Managers to align financial data with project progress.
Audit and Reporting
- Prepare for and participate in audits.
- Generate detailed financial reports for internal and external stakeholders.
Essential Functions:
- Maintain accurate project cost reports and committed cost tracking.
- Investigate and resolve unbilled costs and discrepancies.
- Collaborate on month-end closing processes and ensure timely reporting.
- Identify financial risks and recommend corrective actions during reviews.
Requirements
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration.
- At least 5 years of experience in construction accounting.
- Proficiency in construction accounting systems.
- Strong understanding of construction cost controls, job costing, and P&L accounting.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills; familiarity with Microsoft Dynamics preferred.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Experience Requirements:
- Accounting: 5 years (Required)
- Cost Accounting: 5 years (Required)
- ERP Systems: 1 year (Preferred)
Additional Requirements:
- Must be able to commute to Ontario, CA.
- Relocation to Ontario, CA before starting is required.
