About the Job
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Manufacturing Cost and Inventory Accountant to join our finance team in West Houston. This position is responsible for managing and analyzing the cost of manufacturing operations, ensuring accurate inventory valuation, and supporting the financial planning and decision-making processes. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in cost accounting, preferably within a manufacturing environment, and a deep understanding of inventory management principles.
Key Responsibilities:
Cost Accounting:
- Analyze manufacturing costs and prepare regular reports comparing standard costs to actual production costs.
- Develop and maintain cost accounting systems and processes.
- Assist in the preparation and analysis of cost forecasts, budgets, and variance reports.
- Work closely with production and operations teams to monitor and control production costs.
- Support internal and external audits related to cost and inventory accounting.
Inventory Management:
- Ensure accurate and timely inventory valuation, including raw materials, work-in-progress, and finished goods.
- Conduct regular physical inventory counts and reconcile with the system records.
- Monitor and analyze inventory levels to identify potential issues such as obsolescence, excess, or slow-moving inventory.
- Support inventory-related reporting and ensure compliance with company policies and procedures.
Financial Reporting:
- Assist in the month-end closing process by preparing journal entries and reconciling cost and inventory accounts.
- Prepare and present financial reports related to cost and inventory for management review.
- Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and internal financial policies.
Process Improvement:
- Identify opportunities for process improvements in cost accounting and inventory management.
- Implement best practices and cost-saving initiatives to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of financial operations.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to streamline and optimize manufacturing processes.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3+ years of experience in cost accounting within a manufacturing environment.
- Strong understanding of inventory management and cost accounting principles.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., SAP, Oracle, or similar ERP systems).
- Advanced Excel skills
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
