About the Job
***The Department of Corrections is currently offering a hire incentive bonus of up to $15,000.00 to newly hired Corrections Nurses 1, Corrections Nurses 2. The incentive bonus will be paid in two equal installments, minus mandatory deductions. The first installment will be paid 90 calendar days after the first day of employment, and upon demonstrating an overall mid-acceptable performance rating. The second and final installment will be paid upon the employee's successful completion of the probationary period. Payments will be due within sixty (60) calendar days of such request. To receive an incentive, employees are expected to agree to a three-year term of employment with the Department of Corrections.***
The Alaska Department of Corrections (DOC), Division of Health and Rehabilitation Services is recruiting for multiple Corrections Nurse 1/2 to join the team at the Spring Creek Correctional Center (SCCC) located in Seward, Alaska.

The primary responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
- Triage and assess patients;
- Administer prescribed medications and treatments;
- Provide general nursing care to patients;
- Provide, participate, and assist in therapeutic activities;
- Maintain patient medical records;
- Observe, document, and report changes in the physical and mental conditions of the inmates;
- Be team-oriented;
- Handle crisis situations in a calm and effective manner.

The working environment you can expect:
Spring Creek Correctional Center (SCCC) in Seward, Alaska provides a variety of medical services to patient populations ranging from 350 to 450 in size . Nurses working in correctional settings must become fluent in our policy, procedures and protocols as well as have a deep understanding of their scope of practice. Communication is key in this setting, the ability to work with the variety of specialties within Health and Rehabilitation Service in order to meet standard of care and fulfill our Mission and Vision.

- Demonstrate excellent work habits such as punctuality, attendance, and observation of safety regulations;
- Knowledge of communicable diseases, and immunizations;
- Knowledge of substance abuse and related treatment(s);
- Medication Administration and evaluation of responses to medication;
- Procedures such as dressing changes, phlebotomy and providing patient education;
- Ability to critically think and function independently and handle various situations in a calm and effective manner.
