Position Overview:
The Corporate Safety Manager will lead and oversee the development, implementation, and maintenance of safety programs across all company operations. This role is responsible for ensuring compliance with all relevant safety regulations, minimizing risk, and promoting a culture of safety throughout the organization. The Corporate Safety Manager will work closely with all departments to foster a proactive safety environment, implement safety training programs, conduct risk assessments, and manage safety audits and incident investigations. This position requires a strong background in safety management, leadership skills, and a deep understanding of industry-specific safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
Safety Program Development & Implementation:
- Define, build, and implement corporate-wide safety programs. Ensure programs align with industry standards, corporate goals, and regulatory requirements. Tailor safety initiatives to meet the specific needs of different departments and operational areas.
Regulatory Compliance & Oversight:
- Ensure the company remains fully compliant with OSHA regulations, ANSI standards, EPA requirements, and other relevant local, state, and federal safety laws. Stay updated on changes in regulations and ensure the organization adheres to new safety mandates.
Risk Assessment & Mitigation:
- Conduct regular site-specific risk assessments and safety audits to identify hazards, unsafe practices, and potential risks. Implement risk mitigation strategies and corrective actions to address identified hazards and prevent accidents.
Safety Training & Education:
- Develop and deliver effective safety training programs for all levels of staff, including new employee orientation, specific hazard awareness, emergency response procedures, and equipment handling. Ensure all employees are properly trained and meet required certifications and safety qualifications.
Incident Investigation & Reporting:
- Lead investigations into all safety incidents, accidents, and near misses. Identify root causes, develop corrective and preventive action plans, and track their implementation. Ensure timely and accurate reporting of incidents to management and regulatory agencies as required.
Safety Audits & Inspections:
- Perform regular safety inspections and audits at corporate facilities, job sites, and remote locations. Assess the effectiveness of safety measures, ensure safety equipment is properly maintained, and verify that employees are following established safety protocols.
Safety Culture Development:
- Foster a culture of safety across the organization by engaging employees at all levels. Lead safety committees, encourage active reporting of hazards or unsafe behaviors, and promote employee participation in safety initiatives.
Safety Reporting & Documentation:
- Maintain comprehensive safety records, including training logs, incident reports, audit results, and meeting minutes. Ensure all safety documentation is up-to-date and compliant with internal policies and external regulatory requirements.
Regulatory Liaison:
- Serve as the primary point of contact for regulatory agencies such as OSHA, local environmental health agencies, and insurance providers. Manage regulatory inspections and audits, ensuring timely resolution of findings.
Continuous Improvement:
- Monitor safety trends, best practices, and technological advancements in safety management. Continuously recommend and implement improvements to safety programs, policies, and procedures to enhance employee well-being and reduce risk.
Qualifications:
Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health, Industrial Engineering, or a related field (preferred).
- Certification as a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) is a plus.
- OSHA 500/510 Certification (or equivalent) preferred.
Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a corporate safety management role, with experience in a large, multi-departmental organization.
- Proven expertise in safety compliance, risk assessment, incident management, and safety program development.
- Experience with OSHA, ANSI, and other industry-specific safety regulations.
Skills:
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage employees at all levels of the organization and with regulatory bodies.
- Strong analytical skills to identify safety risks and develop effective solutions.
- Ability to lead and motivate teams, as well as to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, safety management software, and data reporting tools.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to perform site visits and inspections, which may require walking through industrial and construction environments.
- Capable of lifting and carrying safety equipment and supplies when conducting inspections.
- Flexibility to travel to various locations as needed for site audits and inspections.
