Job Description Summary:
The George Washington University Development and Alumni Relations (DAR) Division is seeking a Development Associate for the Corporate and Foundation Relations (CFR) team.
DAR is responsible for leading the university’s alumni and fundraising efforts and seeks to promote a culture of philanthropy throughout the university community, including alumni, students, parents, faculty, staff, corporations and foundations, patients and other friends. Our goal is to advance GWs mission of excellence in education, research, scholarship, and patient care.
This position drives the day-to-day functions of fundraising support efforts as a key member of the Corporate and Foundation Relations (CFR) team. The Development Associate works closely with front-line development officers and represents the CFRoffice to colleagues in the division, faculty, administrators and staff in university leadership offices; and institutional donors and prospects.
Responsibilities include:
- Researches funding opportunities from institutional donors and distributes through multiple channels, including writing summaries of the RFP’s and posting opportunities to the CFR website.
- Supports the CFR team on new and renewal proposal submissions and with reporting obligations.
- Conducts detailed prospect research on institutional donors.
- Coordinates with the Office of the Vice Provost for Research (OVPR) in obtaining award documentation, and tracks proposal submissions and status.
- Provides assistance on drafting gift agreements (in coordination with the Gifts Agreements team), pledge commitments, invoices and gift acknowledgement letters.
- Prepares presentations and other materials for internal and external audiences.
- Tracks fundraising analytics to chart program growth and trajectory and prepares reports for DAR and school distribution.
- Manages the university-wide limited submission opportunities every year working with CFR leadership and the OVPR Research Enhancement Unit.
- Updates the CFR website and LinkedIn page.
- Interacts with corporate and foundation representatives as well as faculty in response to inquiries.
- Assists with management of the corporate sponsorship toolkit.
- Helps maintain the accuracy and integrity of GW’s donor database by ensuring that information is current.
- Assigns and oversees projects to a GW student worker who supports the CFR team.
- Performs basic administrative duties such as scheduling and preparing expense reports.
Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
Minimum Qualifications:
Qualified candidates will hold a high school diploma/GED plus 3 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant area of study. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Interest and/or experience in philanthropy, fundraising, and/or grant writing preferred.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to use project management tools and processes is desired.
- Demonstrated experience in tracking projects with multiple deliverables and deadlines.
- High-level competency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Database experience preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to independently plan, organize and work on multiple projects simultaneously; ability to make effective timely decisions and meet deadlines in a dynamic and ever-changing environment.
- Excellent attention to detail
- Previous development/advancement experience, particularly within a large institutional environment is desired.
