The Corporate Controller will oversee all SROA corporate accounting functions.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Oversee the preparation of SROA management report and accompanying schedules.
- Lead, mentor and train team of Corporate Accountants, Staff Accountants, AP, and other supporting roles.
- Manage all critical accounting workstreams: loan accounting, accounts payable, cash management, payroll, consolidated and entity level financial reporting.
- Support team in executing daily and month end closing activities for corporate functions, including account reconciliations, journal entries, and various monthly analysis. Corporate processes include debt accounting, expense allocations, accrual and prepaid asset reconciliations, balance sheet reconciliation maintenance, consolidation, and assistance with financial statement preparation and reporting to senior management.
- Oversee the maintenance and updates of fixed asset records.
- Ensure the corporate accounting team is meeting processing and reporting deadlines.
- Lead month/quarter/year-end close processes and prepare GAAP compliant financial statements.
- Oversees the production of periodic financial reports; ensures that the reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles.
- Produces the annual budget and forecasts; reports significant budget differences to CFO.
- Provides financial analysis, with emphasis on capital investments, pricing decisions, and contract negotiations.
- Works with external tax accountants and provides needed information for annual returns.
- Establish and maintain controls to safeguard company assets; document and recommend improvements to internal financial policies and procedures.
- Ad-hoc requests and special projects, such as system upgrades/implementations, workflow automation, account trend and vendor cost analysis, etc.
- Other duties may be assigned as needed/necessary
Job Requirements:
- BA/BS degree in Accounting or Finance.
- CPA a plus
- 10+ years of experience in corporate accounting
- 5+ years of management experience leading corporate accounting functions in Real Estate or Storage Industry.
- A mix of public accounting and corporate accounting experience a plus.
- Experience in process and control design and implementation
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and tight deadlines
- Able to effectively train and coach corporate accounting team.
- Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
- Advanced Excel skills required.
- Experience with Jira preferred.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills, including cross-functional collaboration
