Job Summary: Reporting directly to the CFO, the Controller is responsible for managing the accounting, financial reporting, inventory and costing, business performance measurement, budgeting, and internal control processes of the Company. The Controller is a key advisor, evaluating and collaborating with senior executives on matters of strategic and operational planning, modeling, regulatory & compliance, organizational change, and process improvement of the Company.
An important role for the Controller will be serving as the right-hand trusted advisor to the CFO. From organizational strategy to bank relationships and operations, the Controller must possess strong critical thinking skills and be comfortable with constructive dialogue.
Primary day-to-day responsibilities for the Controller will include planning, implementing, managing, and controlling all accounting-related activities of the Company. The Controller will provide leadership and administrative direction for accounting and financial reporting with key input to strategic planning, capital allocation, and risk management.
Key Responsibilities:
Meeting the responsibilities of this position includes the following:
- Assist in directing the financial affairs of the Company within the scope of responsibility outlined by the CFO.
- Manage the accounting operations, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, general ledger, cost accounting, inventory, fixed assets, financial reporting and analysis, purchase order management and procurement, and payroll and benefits.
- Produce timely and accurate financial reports and maintain an adequate system of accounting records, and a comprehensive set of controls and budgets designed to mitigate risk; enhance the accuracy of the reported financial results and ensure compliance with GAAP.
- Coordinate activities of external auditors; lead the annual audit process.
- Lead the internal management reporting process including preparation of operating financial packages and materials for executive management and Board of Directors reviews.
- Support and enhance the design and development of the Company’s key financial systems.
- Support the Company’s treasury functions.
- Provide operational decision-making support and analysis; assist in financial management of all operating entities.
- Develop and monitor business performance metrics, support capital investments.
- Work with management to coordinate and/or prepare annual budgets, forecasts, and capital plans. Develop financial projects to assist management in short- and long-term financial goals and strategies.
- Provide technical accounting guidance to the team.
- Oversee regulatory reporting. Comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings.
- Special projects related to acquisition activity, performance, strategic initiatives, and advanced financial analysis to support the CEO, CFO and management team as identified.
- Maintain a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in an effective manner with customers, clients, suppliers, and employees.
Job Qualifications:
- A minimum of a 4 year bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in accounting, finance or related field required; Master’s degree, MBA and/or CPA preferred.
- Deep knowledge of accounting, budgeting, and GAAP. Minimum (10) years of experience in accounting, auditing, financial reporting, and or/financial analysis required.
- Served as a Controller, Assistant Controller, Accounting Manager or equivalent in a public or privately held company or high-expectation environment; the ideal candidate has been successful driving change and growth in public accounting or a growing middle-market organization and building a cohesive and “can do” culture.
