Copywriter
GENERAL SUMMARY
The Copywriter will serve as the primary writer for Pechanga Resort Casino. The candidate will serve a key role within the Marketing Department. This position will work as part of the Communications Team reporting to the Director of Communications. The incumbent must be an experienced, detail oriented, dynamic and persuasive storyteller with a supreme command of the English language. This role requires conceptual, strategic and critical thinking to support business and brand insights. The individual is required to support business needs by developing clear and compelling written content across all functions and all forms of media for a wide range of audiences. The position requires an ever present brand-focused, creative mind and energy with the ability to quickly pivot within a variety of tones, voices and styles, as well as to entirely different projects. The candidate must have agreeability with a knack for tuning out noise, thinking critically about the receiving audience and getting the job done. Additionally, this person is required to use a critical eye in copyediting and proofreading. The individual must possess excellent time management to meet tight deadlines. The candidate will demonstrate the highest integrity of customer service in writing and in person to all guests and Team Members.
FOUR DIAMOND SERVICE AGREEMENT
All Team Members will display a Four Diamond commitment to Customer Service through the delivery and maintenance of the Quality Standards established by Pechanga Resort Casino.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Generate and edit written material for Pechanga Resort Casino across multi-channel, platform, medium, and owned media.
o Deliverables include but are not limited to: press releases, press materials, direct mail, brochures, sales packets, menus, website, billboards, social media posts, digital ads, PSAs, company memos, editorials, advertising, promotional materials, emails, app messaging, company memos, and community messages.
• Work with marketing department stakeholders, other divisional leadership, and clients to understand campaign objectives and how they are to be delivered through every touch point.
• Analyze existing communication efforts and make recommendations for changes to format, wording, length and more for most effective receipt of the communications type.
• Actively participate in team brainstorms and meetings, contribute new ideas, bring ideas and perspectives forward.
• Act as a liaison among all parties of interest while managing copy approvals.
• Ability to learn/adapt quickly and become an authority on the team for the brand voice. Assist other Team Members in the proper instances and methods of using the brand voice/tone/style, as well as the insistence on proper spelling, grammar, etc. for each use.
• Provide proofreading and editing on assigned materials.
• Adhere to Pechanga Resort Casino brand language standards.
• Understand and become a champion of the Pechanga brand.
• Work with web team, assigned internal Team Members and outside agencies to maximize reach through SEO value of copy for owned channels.
• Proactively communicate progress on projects based on budget, schedule and obstacles encountered.
• Advise on industry trends within writing, as well as within the resort/casino space.
• Source images and content as needed
• Maintain current knowledge of writing and language trends.
• Performs other duties and responsibilities as required.
ACCOUNTABILITY: This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
QUALIFICATIONS AND GUIDELINES
EXPERIENCE/TRAINING/EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Journalism or related field. At least 5 years professional writing experience in corporate, agency or news-related function. Experience in casino, tourism or hospitality preferred. Ability to write and edit in additional languages is a bonus.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
• Ability to obtain a Class “A” gaming license
• Must be willing to work afterhours and weekends
SKILLS/ABILITIES:
• Superb English written and verbal communication, interpersonal skills.
• Superior copywriting and grammatical command including but not limited to spelling, punctuation, and grammar.
• Ability to write in all voices, tones and styles.
• Strong prowess in writing projects within an in-house setting.
• Above 50 WPM typing speed.
• Proficient in relevant programs within MS Office, Adobe Creative Suite, page layout programs, web content management systems.
• Consistent, high-quality and proven attention to detail, organization and deadline/importance prioritization.
• Multi-tasking abilities while able to work autonomously.
• Ability to work well cross-functionally and collaboratively.
• Effectively and appropriately manage sensitive information with the utmost confidentiality.
OTHER:
• Some evening and weekend hours may be required.
• Attends required department and company meetings and trainings.
