Overview
Serves in a dual-faceted role to support the implementation of the Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) Grant strategies and activities; support activities of the HSI Five-Year Comprehensive Development Plan (CDP) and the project entitled Driving Student Success Through High-Impact Practices, a campus-wide, collaborative initiative designed to address equity gaps through evidence-based strategies that bolster student enrollment, persistence, and graduation of underserved students.
Provides flexible and collaborative approach, remaining available to assist with additional tasks as required to support the program's success and advancement. This may include, but is not limited to, event planning and coordination, administrative reporting, and providing direct support to students. The candidate’s ability to adapt to changing program needs, take initiative, and contribute to a team-oriented environment will meet the program’s goals and objectives.
Implements, monitors, and evaluates programs, training, and policies related to resource development and priorities for the emerging needs of undocumented and mixed-status students.
Serves as the primary point of contact and an advocate for undocumented and mixed-status students, as well as a resource and liaison to the institution’s leadership, administrators, faculty and staff, and community partners in navigating changing immigration policies.
Provides information on available resources, legal rights, and immigration-related issues affecting students; facilitates referrals to legal, financial, and community support services as needed.
Advocates on behalf of undocumented students to address systemic barriers and challenges they may encounter; organizes and conducts educational workshops and informational sessions for undocumented students to address their specific needs and concerns.
Supports the development of strategic plans and programs with the support and collaboration of campus and community stakeholders to ensure successful retention and matriculation of undocumented and mixed-status students.
Provides subject matter expertise to campus leadership and task force on policy and protocol for an inclusive educational and supportive environment for undocumented/mixed-status students.
Collaborates with a statewide network of liaisons to serve as a subject matter expert to proactively provide best practices for higher education, legislative, and immigration policies for Illinois.
Develops and coordinates a standardized structure for the development and management of mentoring, coaching, and peer-to-peer support programs.
Coordinates the mentoring programs offered by the College, including providing guidance and training for student Peer Leaders; conducts training for Peer Leaders, ensuring awareness of the roles and responsibilities of the job, along with the services available to students.
Provides cross-departmental support for relevant events to promote mentoring programs.
