How will you fight for an AIDS-free generation?
The Coordinator, Media Relations & Communications at EGPAF will support the Media team in positioning the organization as a global thought leader in HIV/AIDS, with a focus on ending AIDS in children, youth, and families. Reporting to the Director, Communications & Media, the Coordinator will help increase awareness of EGPAF’s impact and solutions through media outreach, content creation, and event support.
No two days are alike at EGPAF, but what can you expect in this role?
Media Relations Support
- Assist the Media Team with outreach to journalists and media outlets to enhance EGPAF’s visibility.
- Track media coverage of EGPAF’s work, experts, and leadership, and create media lists to support the team’s outreach efforts.
- Generate metrics and other reports for the Media Team for internal and external dissemination.
- Assist the Media Team in identifying, briefing, and preparing EGPAF spokespeople for media interviews and external speaking opportunities.
- Track news coverage on HIV/AIDS and key issues related to EGPAF and manage the Media Team’s inbox by assigning or escalating emails as needed.
- Distribute press releases and serve as a point of contact for media inquiries, as needed.
Research Support & Content Development
- Collaborate with the Media Team to draft initial versions of press releases, statements, and other materials to support outreach efforts.
- Create short-form multimedia content and repurpose existing content for effective media engagement.
- Prepare presentations and other supporting materials as needed.
- Draft content updates for internal and external dissemination, including the annual report, EGPAFConnect stories, newsletters, one-pagers and fact sheets.
- Work with Director, Communications and Media Relations to research and develop speaking opportunities for EGPAF experts at events, panels, and forums hosted by economic institutions, think tanks, government agencies, academic institutions, and development associations.
- Collaborate with Regional Communications and Editorial Services Officers to create original content (Q&As, explainers) and adapt technical content for media audiences. Assist the Refine and Design team in preparing priority public-facing materials for external distribution as necessary.
External Affairs Team Support
- Schedule meetings and take notes.
- Manage and submit invoices.
- Support administrative needs for external events and team activities, including managing logistics, booking travel, securing visas, and shipping materials.
To be successful, you will have:
- 1+ years of relevant experience in communications, media relations, journalism or related field.
- Strong organizational and time management skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong proofreading and copy-editing skills.
- Solid understanding of journalists' needs and the factors that make content newsworthy.
- Exposure to media relations software such as Cision, Muck Rack, Meltwater, etc.
- Ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment across time zones, independently and as a team player, engaging respectfully with colleagues at all levels within and outside EGPAF.
- Flexibility to adjust to changing priorities and a willingness to take on new challenges as they arise.
- High energy and passion for advancing EGPAF’s mission.
Bonus points if you have:
- Experience using media relations software such as Cision, Muck Rack, or Meltwater preferred.
- Experience using project management systems and software such as Airtable or Asana preferred.
- Basic knowledge of website content management systems (CMS) WordPress preferred.
- Familiarity with Adobe suite (e.g., Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Premiere) for basic photo and video editing preferred.
- Knowledge or interest in international development and global health issues is a plus.
Additional Information
Salary Range
The expected salary range for this position is $40,000 – $50,000 annually in the Washington, DC Metro area. This position is non-exempt and paid hourly. For US-based remote staff, EGPAF uses geographical ranges that are based on the candidate’s location and the associated cost of labor. Actual base salary compensation will be determined by factors such as qualifications, experience and training, education and certifications, internal equity, external market data, and budget.
