Midland University, a small private liberal arts institution, is looking for an energetic educational leader to champion the adoption of innovative and engaging teaching methods across the curriculum. The Coordinator for Excellence in Teaching and Learning provides vision and oversight for faculty development including evaluating appropriate support, resources, programming, and training opportunities for the design, delivery, and assessment of teaching and learning. This position is responsible for strategic and operational planning, as well as the continuous improvement of professional development offerings and services to support faculty across the college in teaching excellence and innovation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provides guidance to faculty on the development of outcomes-based curriculum and related assessment templates (syllabi, curriculum mapping, course-embedded assessments, rubric development, etc.)
- Applies research-based learning and instructional design principles to assist faculty with creating engaging courses utilizing high-impact practices. Serves as the university resource for excellence in pedagogy including face-to-face, hybrid, blended and online modalities
- Develops and delivers (FT & PT) faculty orientation and onboarding processes
- Collaborates with deans to ensure the programming provided in various training modalities (workshops, courses, panels, dialogue days, webinars, etc.) aligns with the institutional strategy, as well as any additional identified faculty needs; identifies and promotes external professional development opportunities; solicits and integrates feedback from faculty and college leadership to inform professional development programming
- Recommends teaching and learning best practices to Academic Council; conducts course observations as needed
- Provides training for course delivery using Canvas, the University's learning management system, and other relevant platforms.
- Remains current in industry trends, instructional design research, and related technology
- Recommends and provides guidance for incorporating innovative technologies throughout programs of study
- Participates in the evaluation, selection, testing, and implementation of hardware and software tools, technologies, and services that enhance the teaching/learning experience
- Models best practices through teaching undergraduate courses as appropriate
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master's degree in a relevant field
- A passion for academic excellence, effective teaching, and educational innovation
- Three to five years of experience in curriculum design, implementing high-impact practices in higher education, instructional technology, online education, and learning management systems
- Knowledge of current industry trends, instructional strategy research, and related technology
- Familiarity with accessibility guidelines that govern face-to-face, distance, and online education
- Established record of effective post-secondary teaching and/ or training and professional development
- Strong interpersonal skills, including exceptional communication and collaboration with diverse constituencies, including students, faculty, employees, and external parties.
