What are the typical hours on the job?
The hours of operation for the Pavilion for Women practice are Monday-Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm. Your primary schedule will be during those hours, with periodic need to work outside your schedule to serve our patients.
What does a Surgery Scheduling Coordinator do?
As a Surgery Scheduling Coordinator, you will be using clinical knowledge to schedule and efficiently coordinate patient’s surgeries and procedures. Uses strong communication skills to relay test preparation instructions, hospital registration requirements, and physician instructions to patients. Schedules post-operative appointments with patients, thoroughly educates, and explains procedures and treatment plan to patients and caregivers in a compassionate manner.
What does a typical day on the job look like?
- Carries out specific verbal or written orders from a physician in an accurate and timely manner. Assesses documentation and counsels patients during scheduling process. Continually adjusts schedules depending on the urgency of the patient’s healthcare needs and the facility schedules.
- Obtains authorization, referrals and/or clearance needed as directed by the physician within a timely manner. Collaborates with appropriate resources, including other physician offices, insurance companies, other facilities, etc. to communicate all required information prior to procedures to avoid postponement or rescheduling of procedures due to inadequate preparation.
- Relays test preparation instructions, hospital registration requirements and physician instructions to patients and/or caregivers in a timely manner. Schedules post-operative appointments with patients after all instructions are provided.
- Communicates effectively with all providers to coordinate and assist in the delivery of health care plan with all team members.
- Assists providers to maximize patient volume. May assist in rooming patients, preparing for exam procedures and obtaining vitals. Documents patient information and returns patient phone calls within a timely manner. Ensures exam rooms are properly stocked, cleaned and instruments are sterilized.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
What are the requirements for the job?
- High School Diploma or equivalent, Associate’s Degree in health care related field preferred.
- 1-3 years in a medical office setting
- Certified Medical Assistant, LPN or RN strongly preferred; current BLS
- Position requires strong attention to detail and coordinator must be able to manage a demanding workload with accuracy
- Knowledge of medical terminology, organizational skills, strong clerical and computer skills, excellent customer service skills.
