Position Summary
To prepare food orders for the Senior Center and to assure the smooth operation of the kitchen by performing the following duties.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Abide by Department of Health (DOH), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Department for the Aging (DFTA) regulations regarding proper kitchen hygiene and maintenance.
- Ensure that quality and quantity of food meet standards for meal patterns established by designated regulatory agencies (i.e. USDA, CACFP, etc.)
- Receive and inspect incoming product for quality and quantity, and ensure prompt and proper storage
- Supervise and participate in the requisition, inspection, preparation, cooking and portioning of food in accordance with quality standards
- Prepare meals accurately according to written recipes
- Recommend changes in recipe/cooking method to improve quality of food
- Supervise and coordinate daily activities of staff engaged in food preparation, meal service and cleanup
- Ensure safe handling and proper temperature control of prepared foods
- Maintain monthly inventory
- Submit food orders to vendors in a timely manner
- Ensure security of refrigerators, freezers, storerooms, and office before leaving for the day
- Check cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen, and equipment, dining area, and adherence to sanitation standards
- Supervise and participate in the training other kitchen personnel in their duties and responsibilities
- Consult with Program Director/ Administrative Assistant as to schedule, menu and any other problems
- Complete DFTA Documentation/Logs
- Attend relevant R.A.I.N. and Outside Trainings
- Perform additional duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- 1-2 years’ experience
- Valid Food Protections Certificate
- Proficiency in modern business communications including personal computers, electronic mail, voicemail, facsimile and copier equipment
- Supervisory experience preferred
- Proficiency in the safe operation of all kitchen equipment and Department of Health regulations.
