What We're Looking For:
- Possession of, or the ability to obtain a Food Handlers card within 30 days after hire.
- Related work experience in an institutional food service department or restaurant.
- One year of experience as a cook preferred.
- Must be able to inspect, taste and smell food to determine quality and palatability.
- Adaptability to dietary restrictions.
- Exhibits and ensures proper knife safety skills and handling techniques are used in the kitchen.
What You'll Be Doing:
- Follow prep sheet and use standardized recipes, portion control and authorized substitutions.
- Prepares, cooks, and serves food in accordance with policies, procedures, and food safety regulations.
- Assist in establishing food service production line, to assure meals are prepared on time.
- Communicates production issues to supervisor as a member of the production team to resolve any production needs daily.
- Prepares, and inspects foods for therapeutic and special diets to ensure they are correct.
- Samples food for quality assurance prior to service, focusing on taste, texture, and presentation.
- Complete food temperature log, refrigeration, and thermometer calibration logs.
- Ensures foods are cooked and held at appropriate temperatures. Records food temperatures throughout the cooking and holding process.
- Keep track of expiration dates and rotate stock using FIFO procedures.
- Helps execute special menus for resident events or catering as needed.
