Position Summary
The Cook is responsible for providing nourishing and appealing meals to residents, visitors and staff while adhering to dietary guidelines and safety standards. They contribute to the operation of the kitchen and will foster an atmosphere of teamwork and professionalism among staff. Would perform other duties as required.
Essential Duties and Functions
- Ensure compliance with regulatory standards involving food safety and sanitation regulations along with WEL policies and be held accountable for survey results.
- Assist in maintaining equipment, kitchen cleanliness, and temperature logs for all equipment and prepared food.
- Ensures the quality and freshness of products conform with recipes and appearance standards.
- Assists the Chef Manager with catering functions.
- Ensures completion of assigned responsibilities.
- Cooks must follow proper temperature guidelines for cooking, holding, chilling, and reheating food items.
- Organize, plan, cook and serve daily meals, cater meals, and special events.
- Prepare meals according to standardized recipes and portion sizes while ensuring that they meet quality and presentation standards.
- Adapting menus and recipes to accommodate residents with special dietary needs or restrictions, such as pureed diets or texture-modified diets.
- Ensure proper cooling and storage of leftover food to avoid waste.
Qualifications
Qualifications include:
- 3-5 years of cooking experience required.
- Cooks must be skilled in various cooking techniques and methods.
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent; graduation from an accredited secondary (Vo tech) culinary program, or post-secondary training or graduation from a culinary training program preferred.
Licensure/Certification:
- Current Serve Safe certificate preferred.
