The purpose of this position is to prepare and provide food service to residents’ in a cost-efficient manner to safely meet residents’ need in compliance with federal, state and local requirements.
Responsibilities for the Cook position:
- Prepare residents’ diets in accordance with the diet orders and daily menus.
- Assist the Dietary Services Director to determine the amount and type of food necessary to prepare the daily menus.
- Monitor use of food to eliminate waste.
- Stock food in compliance with dietary policies and procedures.
- Handle and prepare food in sanitary manner. Using barrier when handling cooked foods i.e. gloves, hair cover-up.
- Prepare food, which is palatable and appetizing in appearance.
- Follow oral and written directions.
- Keeps work area clean and sanitize work surface after food preparation.
- Follow written menus and recipes and spread sheets.
- Understand and be able to prepare therapeutic diets.
- Be responsible for avoiding food waste.
- Assume responsibility for meeting meal schedules.
- Work cooperatively with food service staff and other departments.
- Come to work as scheduled and consistently demonstrate dependability and punctuality.
- Attend in-service training programs for food service employees.
- Perform other related duties as direct by his/her supervisor.
- Perform all duties assigned in an effective, timely and professional manner.
- Observe infection control procedure.
- Follow Residents’ Rights policies at all times.
- Assume accountability for all data contained in the employees’ handbook.
- Participates in special event meals and activities.
- Oversees dietary department in the absence of the food service director/supervisor.
- Follow appropriate dress code; conduct yourself in a caring, courteous and professional manner.
- All other duties assigned by your supervisor.
Qualifications:
- High school graduate or equivalency preferred.
- 1-year experience in food service, preferably in Healthcare facilities and cooking.
- Must have a genuine interest and desire to work with the senior population.
- Must be able to lift 50lbs.
