A lead cook, under the direction of the Food Service Manager, is responsible for preparing, seasoning and cooking food for hospital patients, associates, and visitors, along with overseeing the day-to-day food production of all areas and coordinating all timelines of food for café, catering, and tray line. A lead cook is a lead trainer of kitchen positions and assist on monthly training programs. Cross-train in areas as the need arises. Perform task as requested by manager on a weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly basis. Lead all aspects in Nutrition Services and advise the employees working to ensure timely and effective service of the customers and patients.

Responsibilities:- Greet and interact with all customers
- Assist in serving food
- Maintain appearance and product levels of self-service areas in the cafeteria and food bank for patient line
- Demonstrate proficient knowledge of all kitchen equipment and assist n troubleshooting in event of equipment malfunctions.
- Respond to customer questions and concerns regarding food or service and provide service recovery when needed.
- Daily direction of staff to maintain cleanliness of cafeteria and kitchen
- Monitor food and equipment temperatures.
- Assist in appropriate handling of food items to promote quality and reduce food waste.
- Follow cash handling and cash register policies and procedures.
- Responsible for proficiency in opening and closing register operations and securing cash.
- Assists in entry and maintenance of menu items in the cash register.
- Direct staff in completion of duties.
- Monitors staffing levels and suggests adjustments to manager as needed based on absences or customer traffic levels.
- Assist in inventory of food and supplies, training, and education/development of new employees and in retail promotion planning and implementation
Qualifications:
Minimum Requirements:
- High School diploma or equivalent or post-secondary education.
- Two years of experience in food service or customer service.
- One year cash handling experience
- Valid driver’s license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons.
- ServSafe Food Safety current certification or plan to complete within 6 months of hire.
- Read, write, and speak fluent English.
- Basic computer skills including proficiency with email.
- Critical thinking skills with problem solving.
Preferred:
- Experience with Micros cash register operation preferred.
- Experience with Microsoft Office including Excel, Word, and Power Point or Publisher preferred.
