LOCATION: Bryant University Smithfield RI
HOURS: 2nd Shift
AVI Foodsystems is looking for an energetic and optimistic team member to fill the role of Cook, Full-time at Bryant University in Smithfield, RI. This position includes some evenings and weekends.

Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and cook delicious meals following AVI recipes, ensuring quality by tasting all preparations
- Measuring quantities of seasonings and other cooking ingredients
- Work with kitchen equipment such as slicers, grills, ovens, tilt skillets, steamers, etc.
- Must maintain a safe, clean and organized work areas
- Maintain accurate and complete temperature logs, such as freezers, coolers, cooked food and post-productions logs, etc.
- Ensure all products are labeled properly for storage, maintain proper storage order to eliminate the possibility of cross-contamination/cross-contact and follow FIFO practices
- Properly wear a cut glove when using a slicer, knife or any additional sharp utensil
- Maintain a cleaning list and keep workspaces, tools and equipment clean and sanitized
- Must be able to stand for long periods of time and lift up to and including 50 pounds occasionally
- Must be able to work in an environment that includes heat, cold and loud noises
- Must be able to use chemicals that are required for daily cleaning
- Produces daily specials, vegetables, and appetizers. Keeps up with progressive cooking needs to balance supply on hand and freshness quality.
- Preps for next day service.
- Maintain an excellent working knowledge of all recipes, ingredients, presentation standards and quality adherence standards.
- Cook all recipes according to brand standards.
- Ensure that all foods are prepared and served to recipe specification.
- Be a certified trainer and oversee all training of new staff members in relation to food handling or preparation.
- Ensure adequate stock levels are maintained on raw ingredients and prepared food items to keep up with the demands of the business.
- Ensure all stocks are held at correct temperatures, properly rotated, labeled, dated and covered.
- Ensure all kitchen and food service areas are clean and sanitary
- Communicate any opportunities, problems or areas of concern to manager.
- Any additional job duties as determined by management
Successful candidates will have:
- Must have prior experience cooking in a professional kitchen.
- Must be able to read, follow and scale recipes according to required preparations
- Good math skills with a clear understanding of cooking measurements
- Must have knowledge of the primary 9 allergens and follow procedures to prevent cross-contact
- Excellent time management and the ability to prioritize tasks
- Must have strong sense of taste and smell
- Strong communication, positive attitude and interpersonal skills to collaborate with other team members
- Strong attention to detail, organizational abilities, and the ability to multitask effectively in a high-volume, fast-paced environment
- Ability to remain calm and composed under pressure
- Keen understanding of industry-standard best cooking, preparation practices and ingredient usage
- Basic knowledge of food safety, cook times and food danger temperature zones and sanitation regulations
- Good working knowledge of kitchen, cooking skills, knife skills and prep techniques.
- 2 to 5 years cooking in commercial kitchen.
- 2 years minimum Asian cuisine experience.
- Organized in administrative and restaurant work practices.
- Possesses excellent follow through skills and attention to detail.
- Possesses a high energy level and able to sustain a high volume and fast paced environment for extended periods of time.
- Ability to communicate positively and train staff with all levels of experience and ability.
- Passion for excellence.
- Ability to read and comprehend English is required.
