About the Job
Wright Technical is collaborating with a Fortune 500 client to recruit an experienced Controls Engineer with a background in electrical engineering. The candidate will initially support ongoing projects and then progress to directly managing projects. They will be responsible for leading controls engineering projects from start to finish, including project meetings, design criteria, and team management. Additionally, this role involves travel to customer sites for equipment installation and customer interaction.
Job Duties
- Design and oversee new equipment electrical control systems based on industry standards and principles.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to maintain project timelines and critical path milestones.
- Work with the engineering team to ensure hardware, software designs, and commissioning are completed within budget.
- Maintain task lists and reports of open items.
- Maintain project design documentation and prepare customer deliverables.
- Ensure the controls engineering process is tracked and followed throughout the project.
- Program and troubleshoot PLC-based equipment.
- Program and troubleshoot HMI (Human Machine Interface) equipment.
- Assist customers and local tradespeople in troubleshooting equipment issues.
- Conduct end-user training on equipment operation.
Requirements
- Electrical engineering degree preferred; mechatronics degrees will also be considered.
- Minimum of five years of experience as a Controls Engineer.
- Working knowledge of industry standards, including NEC/NFPA, OSHA, and ANSI.
- Knowledge or education in electrical circuits, schematic reading, design, and troubleshooting.
- Experience with electrical CAD systems, such as AutoCAD Electrical and/or ePLAN
- Experience in computer programming languages, such as VB, C/C++, or C#.
- Experience in design with Rockwell Logix 5000 family processors.
- Experience in design with Siemens S7-1500 family processors.
- Experience with PLC programming in ladder and structured text.
- Experience programming HMIs.
- Proficiency in Microsoft applications, such as Word and Excel.
- Travel required: approximately 30% domestic and international.
