CLX Engineering is seeking a Controls Field Technician II, an experienced industrial electrical automation technician adept in troubleshooting and editing control systems. This role involves efficiently supporting troubleshooting and commissioning programmable logic controls (PLCs) alongside Integration Engineers at client sites. Candidates for this position in Atlanta, GA must reside within commuting distance of Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport. They should be capable of independent work, comfortable in high-pressure scenarios, and skilled in customer interaction. Effective collaboration with lead Integration Engineers and clear communication with project stakeholders are essential for successful project completion.
Responsibilities include a range of tasks from basic programming to troubleshooting and testing, offering opportunities for rapid technical growth in PLC programming and airport BHS operations. Candidates must have applied work experience troubleshooting PLCs. This is not an entry level position.
Our Controls Field Technician positions are non-exempt and hourly paid, reporting directly to the Manager of Controls Engineering. Close collaboration is expected with the Senior Integration Engineer and the on-site Engineer.
The job location for this role is within the restricted areas of airports, where temperatures can fluctuate significantly, and conditions may be dirty. Applicants should be capable of prolonged standing, navigating various types of ladders with different angles, and operating in cramped quarters.
Candidates must be authorized to work in the US. We cannot support need future sponsorship. Candidate responsibilities:- Read electrical schematics, troubleshoot issues and produce electrical prints in design.
- Troubleshoot and edit PLC code.
- Create control panels from electrical prints.
- Execute ideas that make control systems more efficient.
- Observe systems, locate and resolve issues with control components.
- Proficient knowledge of electrical and controls devices and their application in systems.
- Knowledge of safety practices (use of PPE, situational dangers).
- Proficient use of hand and powered tools (screwdrivers, wrenches, drills, grinders, etc.).
- Competent use of electrical testing devices (multi-meters).
- Knowledge of common computer software (Microsoft office, internet, etc.).
- Basic knowledge of professional software used in creating and maintaining control systems (AutoCAD, PLC programming software) and their use in troubleshooting control systems.
- Sometimes, this role entails physical demands, such as ascending slip or ship ladders, navigating obstacles, operating in low light, enduring varying temperatures, and occasionally maneuvering through confined spaces to perform maintenance tasks.
- Other responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or AS Degree with equivalent, applied experience
- 5 years’ experience work with electricity and extremely proficient reading and wiring from electrical schematics.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to stay calm in high-pressure situations
- PLC Software (Studio or Logix 5000) or equivalent (i.e., Siemens, Allen Bradley, Mitsubishi)
- Physical Abilities: Remain stationary for up to 50% of a shift/work hours and while on job sites, must be able to walk airports and plants and remain standing for most of the shift. Must be able to navigate obstacles within a manufacturing environment.
- Drive and have a clean driving record
- Work non-standard hours (nights and weekends)
- Initially, there will be occasional travel, but the travel expectations will increase after the first 1.5 – 2 years to be between 40% - 85% annually.
- Must be able to pass a TSA background check and initial background and drug screenings.
- Present a professional demeanor and appearance
