Controls/Automation Engineer
Wayfair is a leader in e-commerce selling furniture and home goods mostly online. We are seeking a motivated and talented Junior Controls Engineer to join our team. This position will drive change and implement complex solutions that impact an entire fulfillment network.
We are seeking a very driven individual for Wayfair’s Controls/Software Engineering Team in the areas of Ignition,PLC/WCS software, and AMR design. The Junior Controls Engineer will assist in design, development, and implementation of control systems for various projects. Ideal candidates will have a strong foundation in electrical engineering and automation, with a keen interest in controls systems and process optimization. A willingness to travel and tackle the unknown is highly desirable.
This is a unique opportunity to build out Wayfair standards and work with multiple cross functional teams to have a standard (hardware and software) process within our automation platform and supply chain and logistics teams.
What You’ll Do:
- Assist in designing, programming, and testing control systems, including PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers), HMIs (Human-Machine Interfaces), and SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems.
- Support the development and implementation of control system software and hardware.
- Conduct troubleshooting and maintenance of control systems to ensure optimal performance.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including mechanical engineers, project managers, and production staff, to ensure seamless integration of control systems.
- Participate in the commissioning and start-up of new control systems.
- Assist in preparing technical documentation, including manuals, reports, and project specifications.
- Provide support for the development and implementation of safety and quality control measures.
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends and advancements in control systems technology
- Read and Update Electrical Schematics
- Create diagrams for a machine or process
- Ability and willingness to travel 30% with some International travel
What You’ll Need:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related field.
- Basic understanding of control systems, including Electrical Schematics, PLCs, HMIs, and SCADA(ex:Ignition)
- Familiarity with programming languages such as Ladder Logic, Structured Text, or other control programming language (AB and Siemens)
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Strong communication and teamwork abilities
- Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and methodologies
- Previous internship or project experience in control systems is a plus
- Experience 2+ years in field engineering/application material handling field
- Knowledge of power of control hardware and mechanical design
- Capability to troubleshoot hardware systems, components, devices, etc.
- Strong written, visual, and verbal communication skills. Effectively communicating with business partners
- CEMA Standards, NFPA79, ISO 13849 familiarity
