Job Title: Controls Engineer
Job Summary: The Controls Engineer plays a pivotal role in overseeing electrical, electronic, and computer control systems within our organization. Tasked with developing, upgrading, and designing control systems, this role demands both independent initiative and collaborative prowess. The Controls Engineer may engage with external contractors and various internal departments, including data processing and manufacturing branches, to ensure seamless integration and optimization of control systems.
Position Scope:
- Conceptualize and develop machine control concepts, leading the programming and configuration of machine controls and PLCs.
- Assume leadership responsibilities, providing guidance to in-house personnel and external contractors, while effectively negotiating with vendors.
- Collaborate closely with the manufacturing department to identify and address operational needs.
- Engage in a dynamic work environment, spanning office settings, machine shops, and plant floors, where machine components and processes are actively tested.
- Embrace the challenge of maintaining proficiency across diverse machine control equipment and operator interfaces.
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
Minimum Qualifications:
- 5-10 years of hands-on experience in programming and controlling industrial-level machinery and processes.
- Proficiency in PLC programming using Allen Bradley/Siemens, RSlogix software, and Studio 5000; familiarity with PLC using Step 7 is strongly preferred.
- Experience in graphical HMI programming with FactoryTalk View and/or Wonderware.
- Familiarity with AC drives, such as Allen Bradley Powerflex series, and SEW Eurodrive.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD.
- Expertise in electrical controls hardware design, including safety systems.
- Experience with Fanuc and ABB robots, including programming via teach pendant.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and computer skills.
- Ability to travel 20%-30%.
Essential Functions:
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ideate and innovate industrial processes and machinery controls.
- Design and implement industrial processes and machine control systems, ensuring efficiency and reliability.
- Estimate and manage costs associated with the manufacture and design of control systems.
- Coordinate with external contractors and vendors, overseeing project execution.
- Design tests, define research objectives, and evaluate new approaches to control systems.
- Generate specification documents, electrical and engineering drawings, control system descriptions, flow charts, and sketches.
- Develop computer programs essential for control systems.
