POSITION SUMMARY:
The Controls Engineer is a technical resource to the engineering, maintenance, validation and operations departments, to meet all regulatory and Company specific policy requirements and objectives, and to improve plant efficiency, capacity, capability and modernization. This person is responsible for the research, development, design, layout, building, testing, troubleshooting, repairs and improvement of all manufacturing control systems, including the Building Management System (BMS), HVAC, and Utility Control Systems. The position is also responsible for implementing improvements to increase equipment efficiency and prevent obsolescence, as well as ensuring the validated state of all applicable equipment, systems and facilities. This position will maintain compliance with all company standard operating procedures (SOPs) and applicable cGMP, OSHA, EPA, and local government regulations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Directly supervise outside contractors and consultants.
- Maintain all equipment controls and electrical distribution systems.
- Implement improvements to enhance overall efficiency and prevent equipment obsolescence.
- Manage capital projects for HVAC, clean & black utilities, and production equipment controls.
- Together with maintenance, troubleshoot, maintain and repair equipment and system controls.
- Rebuild, upgrade, and modernize production operations and facilities, installing and overseeing startup of new machinery, systems, and support equipment.
- Conceptualize projects and evaluate feasibility and cost benefit to prepare detailed analysis, project timelines, and CAPEX requests. Ensure assigned projects are completed on schedule and within approved budget.
- Maintain the validated state of all applicable equipment, systems, and facilities.
- Monitor, manage, and maintain the Building Management System (BMS)
- Develop positive working relationships with key vendors for technical support and assistance.
- Direct and coordinate the activities of various vendors for potential installations and/or projects to eliminate conflicts and ensure compliance with all SOPs, safety rules, and cGMP, OSHA, EPA, and local government regulations.
- Prepare and/or review electrical, mechanical, HVAC and controls specifications for projects.
- Ensure processes and products are in compliance with all local, state, and federal rules and regulations. Oversee those processes are in CGMP compliance and establish systems that identifies opportunities for improvement and makes constructive suggestions for change to improve process effectiveness to heighten quality. Develop knowledge of and understand regulatory requirements such as 21CFR Parts 210 and 211, cGMP’s, FDA, OSHA, and other regulatory agencies.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering or related field
- Basic understanding of electrical schematics.
- Basic understanding of analytical troubleshooting and root cause analysis.
- Must have good written and verbal communication skills, good organizational skills, and good interpersonal skills to interface with other departments.
- Available 24/7 for maintenance support through shared call-in responsibility and/or remote systems access.
