Job DescriptionAs a Controls Engineer at Syntegon Technology, you will play a pivotal role in designing, developing, and maintaining automation systems for our innovative process and packaging technology solutions. You will be part of a dynamic team that provides cutting-edge solutions to our customers in the pharmaceuticals, food, and confectionery industries.
Key Responsibilities
- Design of electrical schematics, software code, bills of materials and engineering change notices on customer orders.
- Support technical manuals and training departments by helping to create functional description documents for machine lines and specific machine functions.
- Perform all necessary engineering and machine calculations for proper design of electrical and controls systems.
- Expert level support for complex PLC software, controls and automation problems on the shop floor
- Research and implementing new technologies and/or methods in the realms of machine/motion control, Industrial IoT/I4.0 and virtually any other areas that can help us to continue leading the market by providing quality and cutting-edge solutions.
- Lead and execute product-line development projects by developing new functionalities including the generation of electrical schematics, software code and bills of material.
- Coordinate and implement maintenance tasks for PLC and PC based controls platforms, software solutions, engineering libraries including bills of material, electrical diagrams, software and general electrical/software documentation.
- Provide technical support to customers, customer service, sales engineering and project team engineers & technicians when required.
- Support and/or lead Syntegon continuous improvement activities, engineering processes and production activities when required.
- Maintain compliance with Syntegon company policies, quality standards and industry safety standards.
- Contribute and be responsible to the Quality and Environmental awareness throughout the organization.
Qualifications
Basic Requirements
- Must possess a minimum of a 4+ year Technical Degree in Automated Manufacturing Technology
- Must have at least 5+ years of work experience involving design of automated capital equipment.
Preferred Qualifications
- A BS degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Automation or Robotics is preferred.
- Passionate, self-motivated, self-organized, and priority task oriented.
- Able to work efficiently in order to meet project and department objectives while utilizing best practice methods.
- Strong focus on customer service and a desire to do what is right for the customer and represent the company in a professional manner.
- Able to continuously improve and problem solve the working processes and work environment.
- Team oriented with excellent communication skills, fostering team work and building a customer relationship.
- Working experience developing software for multi-servo axis machinery and system control software for automated packaging machinery or other capital equipment using Rockwell RSLogix5000/Studio5000, FactoryTalk View ME software.
- Working experience in implementing/using Rockwell hardware including ControlLogix, CompactLogix, PanelView Plus HMI’s, PowerFlex Variable Frequency Drives (PF525/527), Kinetix5500 Servo Drives.
- Working experience with CAD/CAE software such as ePlan P8 or AutoCAD for the development and/or maintenance of electrical diagrams, electrical documentation libraries and design of electrical panels.
- Working experience integrating vision and barcode systems into PLC based controls platforms for vision-based inspections of printed data (OCR/OCV) and product/part inspection. This includes proper camera/lens/lighting selection as well as configuration, setup and proper hardware and lighting selection.
- Working experience with automated packaging machinery with a good mechanical aptitude and understanding of mechanical mechanisms.
- Working experience with Cognex vision systems.
- Proficient knowledge of AC/DC circuits for the proper design of machine and electrical control systems with the ability to use all applicable engineering calculations to properly size components used within those systems.
- Proficient knowledge of industrial design standards relevant to automated packaging machinery including UL508A, CE, NFPA70E, NFPA79 and OSHA.
- Proficient knowledge in industrial communications protocols such as Ethernet IP and CIP. Includes related hardware (i.e. Stratix5700, Stratix2500) used to support these protocols. Also includes switch configuration, setup of NAT, VLAN or other communication strategies.
- Proficient knowledge in Beckhoff TwinCAT 2/3 PLC/Motion Software and libraries, SAP.
- Basic knowledge of safety of machinery risk assessment and related standards. Working knowledge of SISTEMA is desired

The expected compensation range for this position is between $86,061.00 to $118,000 based on a full-time schedule.
Compensation for roles at Syntegon varies depending on a wide array of non-discriminatory factors including but not limited to the specific office location, role, degree/credentials, relevant skill set, and level of relevant experience. At Syntegon compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. Total rewards at Syntegon include salary + bonus (if applicable) + benefits.
