Description
As a Controls Engineer, you will perform a vital role in designing and developing systems for manufacturing operations. You may design layout, materials and information flow, or machine placement. You may also be responsible for increasing production efficiency by evaluating performance and proposing and implementing improvements. You will be responsible for specifying, designing, constructing, program, and maintaining machine computer-controlled devices. You will also support and train electronics techs for all brand vertical operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot, repair, and improve equipment to reduce downtime while increasing reliability.
- Retrofit, Modernize, and upgrade electronics of existing machinery to stay ahead of obsolete electronics.
- Organize projects including budget, timelines, materials, labor, and items that may influence the on-time completion.
- Utilize analytical failure analysis to reduce or eliminate future failure or downtime thereby reducing operating costs.
- Build and program new electronics cabinets for new and rebuilt machinery. Produce Schematics and operations manuals for the machinery.
Qualifications
Required
- Knowledge of regular engineering doctrines such as safety, structural, electrical, pneumatic, and electronic, codes (OSHA, NEC, NFPA, UL, ANSI, CE, etc.)
- Skills in calculations, installations, materials, power requirements, lineal and rotary forces, environmental, risk & hazard analysis, and project-relative security issues.
- Able to establish standards, guidelines, and manuals in respect to human factor interaction with the device being designed/utilized.
- Fluent in field devices with a major background in electronics including networks, control devices, computers (including single board), SCADA, database creation with data collection and reporting while maintaining data integrity.
- Apply productivity tools such as AutoCAD, MasterCam, Project, Access & SQL, to create detailed design, documentation standards, drawings, logic & ladder diagrams including cause and effect, SAFE charts, etc.
- Experience programming one of more of the following brands: Allen Bradley, Siemens, Automation Direct, Beckhoff, Bosch Rexroth, A-B, Pro-Face, and Yaskawa.
- Experience in a multitude of processes, both in specialized items such as programmable logic controllers and large-scope projects such as plant-wide systems integration and commissioning.
- May be sitting and/or using computers for extended periods.
Education
Associate’s degree in Electrical Engineering, or a related field or 5+ years of experience in Engineering.
Travel: 35 – 50% within the U.S., Dominican Republic and internationally
