Job Title: Controls Engineer II
Job Summary:
As a Controls Engineer II, you will be responsible for the design and implementation of control system details, including instrumentation configuration, preparation, testing, documentation, and training.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with project managers and estimators to evaluate potential projects and submit proposals.
- Read and interpret diagrams and documentation; communicate with customers to understand their objectives and preferences.
- Develop the overall architecture and communication strategy between control system elements.
- Work with customers and stakeholders to define and document control system functionality.
- Develop BOMs, IO lists, and requirements for control panels.
- Serve as the technical lead for small projects, including building PLC and HMI templates.
- Develop PLC programs in Ladder, Function Block, and other programming languages.
- Design and develop the human-machine interface (HMI).
- Create hardware and software test plans and write simulation logic for PLC and HMI system testing.
- Develop training plans and materials for operations and maintenance personnel.
- Coordinate with the installation team to ensure proper execution of documented processes.
- Test installed systems to verify functionality and ensure programs operate as designed.
- Troubleshoot issues during startup caused by incorrect drawings, changes in customer requirements, inaccurate instrumentation specifications, or other technical problems. Diagnose and resolve software and hardware interface issues.
- Train customers on the use and operation of client-specific system integration software.
- Interface with manufacturers and vendors for problem diagnosis and resolution.
- Collaborate with others to address design problems as necessary.
- Respond to service calls to troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair programming and system failures.
- Mentor and train less experienced employees.
Required Qualifications:
- 4 years of industrial controls experience in the architectural, engineering, construction (AEC) industry, or a similar field.
- Bachelor's degree in a related discipline or equivalent industrial controls experience.
- 4 years of experience in PLC programming.
- Proficiency with Allen Bradley equipment and systems.
- Proficiency in PLC programming, including ladder logic, function block, and structured text.
- Familiarity with networking (Ethernet/IP).
- Experience and knowledge of HMIs.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 6 years of experience in the architectural, engineering, construction (AEC) industry, or a similar field.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD Autodesk software.
